The 1970s witnessed the emergence of eccentric furniture pieces that seamlessly blended the avant-garde with practicality. The so-called “Zebrano” wood -derived from tropical trees in America, Asia, and Africa, yielding striped hardwood used in cabinetwork - is known for its distinctive dark stripes reminiscent of a zebra's markings, hence the name. In this chair, the zebrano plywood structure takes centre stage, recalling designers Ingmar Relling from Norway because of the wood, and the bentwood designs of Alvar Aalto. The deliberate visibility of screws adds an industrial touch, embracing the raw aesthetic that contrasts nicely with the organic zebrano wood and fabric.
