Mid-Century Modern Floor Lamp with Spherical Light Bulbs, Europe 1950s (sold)

$0.00

At its most basic level, mid-century modern designs are known for juxtaposing sleek lines with organic shapes, using new materials and methods to reimagine traditional pieces. This floor lamp is a perfect example of this with a futuristic look that isn’t a complete departure from the past.

In general, mid-century modern lamps are geometric, with globes, hourglasses, and rings being the dominant shapes. This model showcases all these elements in versatile forms and shapes. The lamp features two large spherical lightbulbs on thin tubes with a round base. Despite the metal frame, the lamp looks quite airy thanks to the arrangement of the tubes. The black lacquered metal body is shaped in an organic way with multiple curves that are symmetrical until the two tubes meet in the upper half. At that point, a straw ring is wrapped around them tightly, marking an aesthetic change as well. The two tubes have differing lengths and curve in different directions, therefore the overall design becomes dynamic. The spherical lightbulbs have brass holders that are accentuated greatly when the light is lit. Finished with milk glass bulbs to create atmospheric mood lighting, the materials used are characteristic of the era, and create plenty of visual interest.

Unlike other aesthetic movements, mid-century modern design is streamlined, while highlighting the materials used. The vibe of this floor lamp is fresh, retro-tinged, and completely alluring with its dedication to quality and practicality wrapped up in beautiful design that never goes out of style.
