Solid Oak Dining Set in the style of Henning Kjærnulf, Scandinavia ca 1960s (sold)

Solid Oak Dining Set in the style of Henning Kjærnulf, Scandinavia ca 1960s (sold)

$0.00

This impressive mid-century dining set of ten is representative of the fundamental axioms of Scandinavian design that revolve around quality and functionality and pairs it with a distinctive design aesthetic that is based on traditional handcraft.

Each chair is made of solid oak with a beautiful grain and colour. The design has a light impression thanks to the blonde oak, the upholstery, and the slim elements. And yet, this set commands attention through the distinctive elements, mainly the carved front legs that establish the overall sculptural impression. The backs have a unique shape with an arching top framed by the elongated back legs with carved ends on top. The armrests and arms feature a similarly sculpted shape, and clasp the seat tightly. Thanks to the seamless joinery, there are no visible screws, making the chairs effortlessly elegant. The style and shape of the front legs recall the almost Baroque design style of Danish designer, Henning Kjærnulf, with a strong angular structure featuring geometric forms. In combination with the organicity of the traditional Scandinavian style, this set is representative of the region’s style of design. The carved front legs are connected to the back legs with stretchers, which shows that while the chairs’ carved and sculpted elements were designed as a form of ornamentation, functionality and structural stability were of equal importance. The natural grain and colour of the oak is complemented by the light fabric of the seats and backs. The colour complements the blonde oak and adds a modernistic touch.

With a commitment to combine tradition and modernity, this set is a timeless classic composed of heirloom pieces. The chairs’ features are greatly enhanced when they are put together, and two of the ten chairs have armrests, making this a perfect dining set.
