Armchairs in soldid oak and straw commonly attributed to Bas van Pelt, the Netherlands 1940s

Most likely designed in the mid 1940s, these armchairs are true crossover works. The basic structure is shaped quite traditionally, as are the front of the armrests, their fluid lines however end very delicately where they come together with the frame and create a marvellous contrast with the pointy shaped back.⠀

Using natural materials the designer created a friendly and inviting appearance and works that are very much on par with the straw works of contemporaries like Charlotte Perriand. Due to the well chosen proportions these chairs provide great comfort.⠀

Bas Van Pelt (1900-1945) is a well-known Dutch interior and furniture designer, known for the clarity and quality to be seen in his designs. Leaving away any decorative elements, van Pelt’s 1930s-1940s work stands out and his style is considerably progressive for this era.
