Hans-Agne Jakobsson "B99" Table Lamp for Markaryd, Sweden 1950s (sold)
Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s rare “B99” table lamp in enamelled brass is undoubtedly one of the most recognisable Scandinavian table lamp designs.
This exceptional Hans-Agne Jakobsson B99 table lamp that resembles a shimmering beehive, consists of seven individual cylindrical brass elements that together create a soft, warm light that is very pleasing to the eye. Furthermore, thanks to the arrangement of the seven elements, the lamp creates glare-free lighting. The shades are supported by a fairly wide brass base that sits on top of a thin flat foot. On top of the lamp sits the signature brass ring that can be found on several of Jakobsson’s designs.
The lamp is marked with the model name, “B99”, and with “HAJ Markaryd”, the maker’s label underneath the foot.

About the designer:
Hans Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior decorator and furniture designer. He was famed for his imaginative light fixtures, which utilize unique angles and materials to create a soft quality of light.
For example, in his 1960 fixture, Lampadaire, the lampshade is opaque and ribbed in order to distribute ribbons of light. Born in 1919 in Gotland, Sweden, Jakobsson went on to apprentice as a carpenter before studying architecture in Gothenburg. First working as an industrial designer for General Motors, he later founded his own company after being an assistant to the designers Carl Malmsten and Werner West.
Today, Jakobsson’s works can be found in private homes as well as public institutions throughout Sweden. He died in 2009 in Sweden. ~H.
