Italian Mid-Century Geometric Lounge Chair, Italy ca 1950s (sold)

$0.00

This chair is exemplary of the main ideals of mid-century modernism: it is characterised by clean, simple lines, honest use of materials, and a lack of unnecessary decorative embellishments. Instead, the focus is on craftsmanship and clever design.

With a clear preoccupation with geometry, this chair’s outstanding architectural frame recalls the mastery of European designers, particularly Ib Kofod Larsen. The clearly lined frame contrasts beautifully with the angled seating and gives the work an open and light appearance. The backseat is supported by the elongated back legs, creating a unique look. While the refined linearity defines the overall aesthetic, functionality was clearly an important aspect of the design. Due to the well-chosen proportions and upholstered body, this chair offers great comfort. The lines are crisp and elegant, with the seat and backrest creating an angle that is aiding the stability, comfort and ergonomic design.

While the second half of the 20th century saw the takeover of mass production and many - now iconic - futuristic designs, this chair preserves the value and beauty of master craftsmanship and exquisite materials. Countering the often quite vivid colours and designs of the era, the beautiful dark wooden frame is paired with light, premium upholstery.
