Mid-Century Brass and Wood Table Lamp, Scandinavia 1940s (sold)
Mid-Century Brass and Wood Table Lamp, Scandinavia 1940s (sold)
Characterized by clean lines, washed woods, soft edges and intuitive functionality, Scandinavian modern design is eternally timeless and timely. Mid-Century design emphasizes the multiplicity of light sources and differentiation of luminous atmospheres.
Like many of the decade’s designs, this table lamp masterfully pairs materials and textures. The pairing of brass and wood creates an interesting visual effect, where the organic and traditional look of the wood meets the modern look of the metal. Swedish lighting designers were a masters of creating designs with great texture variety as this table lamp shows. The light, lacquered metal lamp shade “crowns” the base and neck beautifully, topped with a unique brass circle sitting on top of the shade. It appears as if the elongated neck pierced through the wooden middle part and the shade, which is a clever design element. The wide lacquered metal shade directs the light downwards and prevents any glare. The beautiful colour and texture of the brass and wood neck is emphasized even further when the light is turned on by the switch on the base. The two bulbs provide warm light, which brings a soft ambience, bringing a touch of Scandinavian style to any space.
Adding illumination to a living space with this stylish table lamp will not only improve the ambience, it will also provide useful task lighting for those late nights. Apart from the aesthetics, the quality of this table lamp is also true to its Scandinavian heritage.
