Swedish Cabinetmaker Mahogany Veneered Sideboard for Svensk Möbelindustri, Sweden 1940s (sold)
Swedish Cabinetmaker Mahogany Veneered Sideboard for Svensk Möbelindustri, Sweden 1940s (sold)
This sideboard is a beautiful example of the change in taste and design choices at the start of the Mid-Century Design era in the early 1940s.
Elegant in its simplicity, this sideboard puts the emphasis on showcasing the material and Swedish craftsmanship of the mid-century. As is the case with its Danish contemporaries, this sideboard also deserts any unnecessary ornamentation in favour of the traditional mid-century design philosophy, which centers around craftsmanship and functionality.
Unlike most models, the sideboard features exposed shelves, which is an honest and functional design element. The sideboard is divided into four symmetrical compartments. The open design makes this model perfect to display anything, including books. The refined design also provides generous storage space with a modern look that showcases the mahogany wood’s varied colour and rich grain. The four short, stumpy legs arch seamlessly into the sideboard’s base.
This sideboard is marked with a “Svensk Möbelindustri 29” (Swedish Furniture Industry) label on the backside. ~H.
