This rare, brass nine-armed chandelier was created in what we now call “the golden age of Scandinavian design”. Swedish designers were masters of lighting, designing some of the most recognizable mid-century modern lamps of Scandinavia.
With nine shades arranged on three levels, this chandelier immediately stands out thanks to its characteristics. The amber-coloured glass shades stand out not just for their size, but also because they are equally mesmerizing whether the light is on or off. Beautiful geometric forms and symmetry dominate the structure balanced by straight lines. The brass structure is held by a single, vertical brass pole that highlights the volume of the lower half of the lamp. Attached to the main pole are nine, symmetrically arranged poles on three levels with a shade at each end. What makes this model distinctive is the arrangement and shape of the individual poles: the three shades on each level are held by curving poles with brass candelabra sockets inside the shades. Each shade is arranged between the ones below, resulting in a full, voluptuous look. Additionally, thanks to the close arrangement of the shades and the brass structures, the chandelier seems to “glow” when lit, creating a dazzling effect.
This softly glowing, glare-free chandelier was inspired by the "organic modern" approaches of Scandinavian mid-century lighting designers, among them Danish lighting master, Poul Henningsen, Finnish icon, Alvar Aalto, and Swedish innovator, Hans-Agne Jakobsson. This imaginative chandelier utilizes its predecessing models’ best qualities in the best way possible.
