This lovely Dutch ceiling or wall lamp is Raak’s model B-1052, better known as the “Chaparral”. Made of high quality glass with brass details, this model is a unique design that both figuratively and literally stands out wherever it is placed.

The unique dewdrop shape of the glass shades makes this lamp truly eye-catching. This elegant shape creates the effect as if a drop of water is dripping down off the shade. The hand-blown smoked droplet glass lampshade emits a bright, warm light that also highlights the beautiful, patinated brass holder and screws. These brass parts add a sense of elegance to the pieces, while ensuring the quality and longevity as well. The designer of this model is not mentioned in the catalogues, however the design could have been inspired by the very similar droplet lamps from Florence, Italy, that could be found everywhere in the streets and houses. Thanks to their organic and modern design, the Raak Chaparral lamps - including pendants as well -were popular and therefore produced for a long time both in Amsterdam and Aalsmeer.

The Dutch company Raak was founded in 1954 by Carel O. Lockhorn, a previous employee of Philips Lighting Eindhoven. Raak, which means “to hit” in Dutch, implies design which precisely “hits the nail on the head”. The company was first located at the Prinsengracht 777 in Amsterdam, and later, after a merger in Aalsmeer.
