Tue Poulsen is a highly accomplished ceramicist and artist, who established his permanent gallery and studio in Denmark in the 1960s. As a ceramicist, his work ranges widely: from large, heavy sculptures, mastodons in stoneware, to the very light and thin, almost transparent porcelain cast. He experiments with different materials, sometimes combining clay with iron, steel, wood, acrylic or even ice.
The Danish design paradigm focuses on mixing practicality, modern aesthetics and expert craftsmanship. This table lamp is the embodiment of modern design’s widely loved characteristics. Danish craftsmen are experts at incorporating functional elements in a decorative way, serving a dual purpose as a result. The body is constructed out of stoneware, offering the piece a natural feel enhanced by the organic relief pattern. The appreciation of nature and simplicity can also be observed through the earthy tones of the lamp, from deep black, to rusty brown and sandy beige. The dark hues of the ceramic body also exude a sense of warmth and elegance, making it a versatile piece that can complement a variety of interior styles, from modern to rustic. The oval shape of the shade is made out of a textured light fabric that stands out even more when the lamp is lit, and matches the colour scheme of the glaze.
The overall aesthetic of this piece is essentially Nordic modern thanks to the combination of interesting materials, texture and a design inspired by nature. This Tue Poulsen table lamp feels unique, yet comfortingly familiar, being the perfect addition when it comes to interior decor.
