Floor lamps have been used as decorative focal points for rooms since the early 20th century. In Swedish mid-century design, where interior lighting is of particular importance, Hans-Agne Jakobsson managed to master the art of soft, cosy light without blinding or crushing space perception.

Evident with this floor lamp, lighting fixtures of the era are characterised by their sleek silhouettes, geometric shapes, and innovative use of materials. This piece is made of brass, which was the preferred material for most floor lamps of the era as it is enduring and develops a beautiful patina over time. The brass body has an appealing, patinated golden colour that stands out even more against the cream-coloured shade. This “G93” floor lamp was created at his own famed workshop in Markaryd, Sweden where the Swedish designer and cabinetmaker gave shape to most of his era-defining creations.

Condition:

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The shade is a later replacement. The lamp has recently been rewired.
