Danish Cabinetmaker Stained Oak Stool, Denmark 1940s (sold)
Danish Cabinetmaker Stained Oak Stool, Denmark 1940s (sold)
Denmark has a long history of furniture-making. Through the 19th century, the country also had a very strong tradition of cabinetmaking, or producing traditional furniture by hand. In the early 20th century, these cabinetmaking traditions began to merge with modern forces to create simple and refined pieces like this stool.
This stool has a classic look that relies on the beauty of the stained oak structure. Smooth and unadorned, the design has functionality in its focus with four sturdy legs strengthened by cross stretchers placed under the seat and lower, between the legs. The joinery techniques further reinforce stability. At the same time, these functional features serve a double purpose, adding visually pleasing elements to the design as well. Overall, this stool is versatile and minimal; it seeks to complement its surroundings. The upholstered seat with the light premium sheepskin fabric emphasizes the beautiful wooden frame and creates an elegant and modern look that is characteristic of Danish mid-century modernism.
Form and function collide in this stool, a piece of furniture that is often underestimated. Designers define stools as jewels and statements in a space, and taking practicality into account, this stool is perfect to add visual interest to any space.
