The focus is divided equally between the solid wood base and the fully upholstered mattress. The upholstered body is adorned in dark ponyskin, which adds a layer of sophistication to the design. The textured fabric creates a tactile contrast against the smooth wooden legs, elevating the overall visual appeal. The choice of ponyskin not only speaks to the preference for organic materials in mid-century design, but also enhances the daybed’s luxurious feel and quality. Ponyskin is often (but not always) made from cowhide which, unlike other types of leather, retains the original hair.
