"Bumling" Floor Lamp in Brass by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan, Sweden 1968 (sold)

"Bumling" Floor Lamp in Brass by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan, Sweden 1968 (sold)

$0.00

The Swedish word “Bumling” translates to boulder, and is used colloquially to describe things colossal or otherwise unwieldy. It is what a friend of the designer Anders Pehrson allegedly called Pehrson’s new lamp when it was first exhibited at the 1968 lighting fair in Gothenburg. This was the birth of Bumling, a Swedish design classic.

This mid-century piece is one of the most recognisable lamps of Swedish modernist design. The brass shade resembles a bucket and the material’s colour is beautifully emphasized when the lamp is lit. The heavy-looking top is supported by the slender stand.
