Mid-century modern is notable for its blending of classic modern design with a slightly more updated feel. This beautiful Danish armchair has a classic, comfortable style that is a prime example of the best qualities of what is referred to as Nordic or Scandinavian modernism.

Several key factors unite the Danish, and on a bigger scale, Scandinavian approach to design. Many Scandinavian designs have been inspired in some sense by organic forms, materials and nature. Upholstered cabinetmaker chairs may seem similar at first sight; however, each model’s individuality becomes evident upon closer inspection. In this armchair’s case, its angular, welcoming shape and the wooden feet stand out immediately. Its inventiveness bears witness to the synthesis that this chair has achieved between form and function, in which aesthetics and utility come together in a purely Scandinavian manner. The fully upholstered wooden frame rests on stained beech wood legs. Tapered feet support the chair in the back, providing stability and contrast to the light upholstery. The spherical, so-called bun feet on both the armchair’s front legs and on the ottomans are the most notable details of the design. They create a stylish, modern look that enhance the organic aesthetic as well. The exceptionally soft, premium wool blend fabric highlights the frame’s rounded edges, especially its voluminous arm- and backrest.

We have added newly produced matching, upholstered ottomans to provide additional comfort and visual interest. Nordic artistry and craftsmanship survived well into the 20th century, thanks to the late arrival of industrialization in the area. As a result, Nordic modern furniture, like this armchair, are of the highest quality both in visual and technical terms.
