Danish Mid-Century Pendant Lamp by Lyskjær Belysning, Denmark 1960s (sold)
Danish Mid-Century Pendant Lamp by Lyskjær Belysning, Denmark 1960s (sold)
This pendant produced by Lyskjær Belysning is a beautiful example of the functional and stylish characteristic of mid-century Danish design. This model appears modern and classic at the same time, signalling a true timeless design.
This model, much like the designs of Poul Henningsen, was developed during the 1960s, likely in response to the constant changes made to the shape and size of incandescent bulbs by bulb manufacturers. The pendant features a sculptural, multi-layered brass design with a beautiful yellow hue on the outside, and a matt lacquered inside. The three graduated tiers and their joinery define the design. The thin brass parts serve a dual purpose, besides assuring the joinery of the different tiers, they also serve as a purely visual element that enhances the geometrical look. When lit up, the warm hue of the brass is accentuated on the lower tiers, diffusing the light evenly. The pendant has an appealing cable covered by black coiled cord, which is an interesting addition to the modernist design and contrasts the smooth surface of the brass.
Another advantage of the solid brass material is its high quality, which makes this lamp timeless both in terms of quality and design. The modern, symmetrical design became iconic among mid-century lighting designs, defining and inspiring mid-century design and designers, and continue to elevate even the most modern interiors.
