European Lounge Chairs in Tibetan Sheepskin, Europe ca 1950s (sold)

$0.00

This pair of mid-century lounge chairs revolves around high-quality materials, comfort and the mastery of the era’s European cabinetmakers. The design is focused on the aesthetics of modernism whilst employing the exquisite technique and material familiarity of the highly skilled craftsmen. These chairs in many ways transcend the word ‘modern’ thanks to their unique look.

The flamboyant look is the result of the brilliant pairing of materials. The solid wood structures’ smooth lines stand out against the textural, organic sheepskin while also accentuating the individuality of the upholstery. The soft fibres of the lightweight, feathery Tibetan sheepskin drape beautifully over these lounge chairs, while the warm brown colour adds depth. The desire to keep functionality and comfort at the core of the design is visible, especially in the gently tilted back and the short, tapered legs. The armrests have a peculiar shape, with perfectly sculpted curves to accommodate the sitter. Furthermore, the elongated seats are perfect for lounging and counterbalance the short legs.

Dating from this period of unbridled creation, this exceptional pair upholstered in Tibetan sheepskin preserves the traditional ideals of European mid-century design, while also utilizing the new techniques the 1950s brought by. These chairs preserve the value and beauty of master craftsmanship and exquisite materials making them timeless, unique additions to any space.
