This daybed has a streamlined, elegant look achieved by natural materials and functional elements. The joinery is seamless, without a doubt the work of an expert woodworker. The way the wood pieces are joined together to form this more complex wooden composition, is the quintessential technique that defines this daybed. The individual legs are connected like bridges on the sides creating a flowing, calm look. The streamlined solid wood frame provides the base for the thick, upholstered mattress. It is unattached to the base resulting in a light look, while the perfectly fitting shape completes the design. Furthermore, in the absence of ornamentation, the luxurious upholstery stays in focus, utilizing the bouclé fabric’s texture to break the straight lines visually. Möbelproduktion AB was located in Gävle, Sweden and the company started out from a small carpentry shop producing high-quality furniture, a characteristic that they - evidently - kept till their closure in 1992. MP sold furniture, textiles and had interior designers employed for assignments to, among others, the hospital in Gävle, Ljusdal and Hudiksvall as well as government and municipal agencies.

Sweden has a long and very well-known history of furniture-making. Through the 20th century, the country had a very strong tradition of cabinetmaking, or producing traditional furniture by hand. In the early 20th century, these cabinetmaking traditions began to merge with modern forces like industrialization and later, mass production. This daybed however, is a handmade piece that remains quite rare and unique.
