Viggo Boesen designed several pieces of modernist wicker furniture, which were based on the strength and durability of rattan. According to Boesen, furniture should have an organic flow and embrace the body smoothly and tenderly. It should be a delight to the eye, but also be solid and durable. Boesen's present “Fox” lounge chair was created according to these principles, and even won the design competition that the Danish Wicker-Maker Guild held in 1936.

In the 1930s, Viggo Boesen was one of the architects who introduced a new villa type in "Funkis-style" (Nordic take on functionalism). Viggo Boesen and Finn Juhl furnished the first apartment on "Sortedamsdossering" in Copenhagen, where the Fox chair was displayed in the living room. In contrast to mass-produced materials and the less-is-more approach from the Bauhaus school of thought, Boesen brought a soft, warm, and almost naive aspect to design, ushering in new forms of furniture. This model is constructed according to his philosophy: furniture should have an organic flow and embrace the body smoothly. The artisanal construction of this chair is spectacular, the weaving is impeccable, and its pattern shows some influence of the Art Deco movement. With a raised seat and gently bent backrest, this lounge chair is sure to provide sitting comfort. For even more cosiness, we have added a sheepskin throw blanket that also complements the material of the chair.

This Fox chair is the first of many furniture pieces from this pioneer in organic furniture design, and its unique and original design, highlighted by the rattan, embodies the "golden age" of Scandinavian design. Only a few of his designs were ever produced, yet Boesen’s original ideas, organic shapes and expressive design lingo were precursors to Denmark’s subsequent stance on modernism in the decades that followed.
