Henning Korch Wooden Serving Cart for C.F. Christensen, Denmark 1960s (sold)

Henning Korch Wooden Serving Cart for C.F. Christensen, Denmark 1960s (sold)

$0.00

This serving cart is the work of Danish designer Henning Korch, who mainly designed tables and cabinets, prioritizing the natural beauty of wood.

Korch, unlike most Danish designers, did not create seating, instead he perfected his craft designing other types of wooden furniture. Nonetheless, as this wood serving cart shows, he kept the quintessential Danish design paradigm in the focus, mixing practicality, modern aesthetics and expert craftsmanship. This cart is composed of three shelves; the middle one is divided into two sections, with a black, Formica inlay part and a hollow area so that taller items such as bottles can be placed on the bottom shelf. This detail shows the designer’s careful thought process and consideration of practical needs. Cabinetmakers take the art of working with wood one step further, and focus on the finer details of what can be created with the material. The wood grain throughout the cart is exceptional, showing a flowing pattern.

The serving cart is a piece of furniture that is useful in everyday life, but Kroch, with the help of master cabinetmaker C. F. Christensen, managed to elevate this relatively simple concept into a timeless and elegant piece, retaining its focus on functionality. This model is often misattributed to Johannes Andersen, but now it is rightfully included in the Danish Design Museum’s archives as well as a creation of Henning Korch. The manufacturer, C. F. Christensen A/S Møbelfabrik, Silkeborg’s metal tag is featured on the bottom of the cart.
