Italian Mid-Century Modern Floor Lamp in the Style of Stilnovo, Italy 1950s (sold)
Italian Mid-Century Modern Floor Lamp in the Style of Stilnovo, Italy 1950s (sold)
At the very beginning of modernism, most Italian designers found it challenging to balance modern creativity and classical elegance. By entering the mid-century modern era, Italian design became known for remaining stylish, refined, and elegant with a modern, creative edge.
While the design of this unique floor lamp offer plenty visually, it is still uncluttered with sleek lines with both organic and geometric forms. The dual lamp construction immediately stands out, with one straight, upward facing lamp and another, downward facing with a more organic, curving look. There are numerous unique solutions, from the way the opalescent shades are connected to the tubes, to the way in which the lower lamp’s body parts to embrace the other’s tube. As a result of the latter, the black lacquered metal structure of this floor lamp gives an organic impression despite its material. The shape of the shades add to this aesthetic, while the bodies and tripod base with brass tips keep the design in the mid-century modern vein. The lamp creates an atmospheric lighting, the light shines through the opalescent bulbs in a cosy way.
The overall look is reminiscent of the Stilnovo style that established itself on the international scene thanks to the prosperous combination of the nascent industrial design and the most famous names in architecture. This union is clearly traceable in this floor lamp.
