Pair of Light Blue Italian Armchairs in the manner of Gigi Radice, Italy 1960s (sold)

$0.00

Throughout the 20th century, Italian design distinguished itself globally. The postwar boom years of the 1950s through to the 1960s was one of the periods of greatest influence of Italian designers. Design in the 60s paved a way to a more aesthetic approach to products as opposed to its utilitarian predecessors, resulting in exceptional pieces like these armchairs.

These armchairs were crafted in the manner of Gigi Radice, an impactful designer who made his mark in the Italian mid-century modern style alongside other renowned creators such as Gio Ponti and Carlo Mollino. The chairs feature low armrests, contributing to their sleek, streamlined form that prioritises openness. The pair blends comfort and elegance with an ergonomic design. Upholstered in a striking blue fabric, the chairs offer a visually appealing, rich and interesting texture that enhances their modernist aesthetic even further. The thin gilded brass legs contrast the textural softness of the upholstery with their golden sheen, while helping to create a light, airy feel through their unobtrusive presence. This combination of materials and proportions highlights the beauty of simplicity, while the metal detailing introduces a touch of subtle sophistication and refinement.

Though mid-century Italian designers may not have the name recognition as some of their Scandinavian and American counterparts, they were integral to developing a modern aesthetic in Europe. These chairs reflect this idea, by serving as the ideal focal point for any contemporary or classic interior, through their elegant look which allows them to seamlessly complement a wide range of colour schemes and decor styles.
