Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern Armchairs in Green Wool, Scandinavia 1950s (sold)

$0.00

‎This pair of Scandinavian armchairs is characterized by the best qualities of the region’s mid-century design. From the restrained aesthetic to the elegant pairing of materials, these chairs are the perfect examples of how pairing Scandinavian modern design, the work of a cabinetmaker, and luxurious upholstery create exceptional pieces.

The cabinetmaker of this pair put an emphasis on soft elegance and functionality, making these chairs timeless in every sense of the word. Their elegance is the result of the subtle decorative qualities stemming from the early 20th century art movements, and the simple lines deriving from those of the inter-war period. Even though Scandinavian design is generally democratic and meant for the masses, pieces were not stripped of all beauty in order to make them as easy to use as possible. The design revokes Swedish designer, Carl Malmsten’s kind shapes and simple lines guided by a certain curved homeliness. The chairs appear dynamic and open thanks to the arms and backs curving outwards. Quality craftsmanship was evidently of optimum importance for the cabinetmaker who created these chairs. The stained and lacquered wooden legs are lightly splayed and tapered in a characteristic Scandinavian mid-century modern manner, while their warm colour complements the soft, green upholstery.

With their cosy mid-century modern aesthetic and material quality, these chairs are truly soulful and timeless. In the absence of any ornamentation, the focus stays on the stylish look supported by functionality and comfort.
