‎In Sweden, “svensk design” in particular operates as a set of relations linking the everyday world - composed of objects, spaces, people - to the cultural ideologies that motivate the persistence of a social democratically infused “way of life.” Thanks to this sentiment, the cabinetmaker of this lounge chair put an emphasis on soft elegance and functionality, making it timeless in every sense of the word.

The term Swedish Modern was quickly established as a reinterpretation of modernity during the 1940s, and the new Swedish Modern style, early and square functionalism was replaced by a freer and more artistic ideal. These qualities define this chair, completed by the lovely upholstery and its warm, stylish colour. The main principles of Swedish Modernism centre around minimalism, simplicity and functionality, which guide this model as well. The frame is expertly designed, with ergonomic and aesthetic principles at its core. The design offers plenty of visually arresting qualities, which include the outward curving armrests that create a welcoming look, the fully upholstered, enveloping body, and the tufted backseat adorned with buttons. The clean lines really stand out thanks to the monochromatic colour palette, as the wooden legs have a similar shade as the fabric used for the upholstery. The expert Swedish craftsmanship is clearly visible even under the fully covered frame.

The structure is supported by the tapered, solid wood legs that add an organic touch to the design. The subtle decorative qualities stemming from the early 20th century art movements and the simple lines deriving from the inter-war art movements give this model its elegance. The design shows the homely curviness that defined the design of the 1950s throughout Scandinavia, especially Sweden.
