A Pair of Perforated Brass and Metal Wall Sconces, Europe 1950s (sold)

A Pair of Perforated Brass and Metal Wall Sconces, Europe 1950s (sold)

$0.00

These early 1950s wall sconces show the lesser seen whimsical side of mid-century design. While having some of the main design elements European mid-century lighting design is known for, these lamps are entirely unique, with a charming look that utilizes the highest quality materials and technical know-how.

The brass and metal structures of these sconces are composed quite unusually; the backplates each hold a metal reflector through brass fittings. The perforated reflectors have a shield-like appearance. The reflectors showcase the main aesthetic element of the design: the charming star-like perforations that immediately set these sconces apart from the rest. When lit, they cast a captivating dance of light and shadow, transforming any room into a space of enchantment. The intricate play between the soft glow and the shadowy patterns creates an atmosphere of refinement and cosiness without ever becoming kitschy. The brass wall backplates not only ensure the sconces stay securely attached to the wall but also contribute to their overall elegance. In the front, the brass straps also serve a decorative role with a rounded shape. The brass exudes warmth and elegance, contrasting beautifully with the beige metal. Since the design is “open” in the back, the light is also directly cast onto the wall, creating a neat visual effect. Finally, the pull switches stemming from the backplates hang freely, adding verticality to the design, and elongating it visually as well. Either lit or switched off, these wall sconces are delightful pieces to behold, sure to be unique additions to any interior.

This pair of wall sconces is perfect for creating a cohesive and harmonious lighting arrangement in any space whether installed together in a hallway, flanking a mirror, or positioned strategically in different rooms. Regardless of their placement, they are guaranteed to bring a consistent and charmingly stylish aesthetic.
