Swedish Mid-Century Modern Chair by AB Diö Slöjd och Möbler, Sweden 1950s (sold)
Swedish Mid-Century Modern Chair by AB Diö Slöjd och Möbler, Sweden 1950s (sold)
This beautiful Swedish chair is exemplary of Nordic mid-century modern design as well as outstanding craftsmanship with a quality that honours the materials and their users. The main principles of Swedish Modernism centre around minimalism, simplicity and functionalism, and this chair achieves to follow these principles while offering plenty of visually arresting qualities
This chair is a piece that is designed in the “typical” Scandinavian modern style. The chairs’ simple and functional design, starting from the wooden frames’ symmetric lines to the visible joints and screws, is highly representative of the principles of Scandinavian mid-century design. The wooden structure is very impressive, and shows architectural prowess. Every element is necessary and starting from the gently spread-out legs to the tilted back, the design assures stability and comfort. The wooden frame appears to be firmly holding the back- and seat rest, which is even more apparent thanks to the soft sheepskin upholstery. The sheepskin further highlights the round edges of the seat- and back rest, and contrasts nicely with the otherwise straight lines of this model.
This design was manufactured by Swedish manufacturer, AB Diö Slöjd och Möbler during the 1950s. As the great attention to the structure also suggests, this model’s main guiding principle is functionality. At the same time, as it can be expected from a mid-century Scandinavian design piece, the aesthetic dimension does not fall behind.
