"G-03" Brass Floor Lamp for Bergboms, Sweden ca 1960s (sold)
"G-03" Brass Floor Lamp for Bergboms, Sweden ca 1960s (sold)
Bergboms, also called Bergbom & Co AB, was a modernist Swedish lighting manufacturer established in 1940. The firm was prominent in Swedish design and active in the postwar period. Bergboms created a variety of sleek, elegant pieces for both the Swedish market and for other designers, such as Bernard Schottlander and Greta Magnusson-Grossman.
The 'G-03' floor lamp is an embodiment of the beauty of the time period's designs: from its sleekness, to its elegance and functional composition. This beautiful modern floor lamp combines the classical shape of a standing task lamp with the added touch of high-quality Swedish craftsmanship. The stem and base are made of brass, the preferred material for the most iconic lamp designs of the era. Not only is the metal enduring, but - as this lamp shows - it develops a beautiful patina over time. In line with the overarching trend of the time, unnecessary ornamentation was abandoned in favour of a functional, straightforward design. However, due to the brass body, the lamp still has an appealing, warm and inviting golden colour that offers a welcoming feel. The rock beam base offers additional sturdiness and stability, while visually balancing the body and the off-white lamp shade. The underside of the lamp is marked with the Bergboms name and the model number 'G-03'.
This classic yet stylish lamp serves as a functional addition to a space, while its beauty offers tasteful character and personality. Apart from the aesthetics, the quality of this lamp is also true to its Swedish roots and is a testament to the stellar reputation of its manufacturer, Bergboms.
