The 1930s and 1940s were remarkable eras for French design, marked by a unique blend of innovation and tradition. Among the many exquisite pieces from this period, this pair of armchairs carry the era's distinct charm where Art Deco sensibilities merge with modernist influences. Crafted from solid wood, these chairs showcase an elegant design that encapsulates the essence of 1930s French aesthetics.

These chairs illustrate the perfect alliance of geometry and function, combined with the world renowned craftsmanship and material choices of Modernism. Since these chairs carry design elements from Art Deco as well as early mid-century modernism, they have a unique and immediately recognizable look. Constructed masterfully, this pair of chairs give the impression of almost defying gravity, as if the seats are supported by an invisible column of air. The pronounced curve of the arms, framing the body from the sides, are beautifully sculpted from solid wood with extreme precision and knowledge of woodworking. The tightly upholstered seats and backs - while adding plenty of comfort and cosiness to the design - don’t take the attention away from the wooden structures, but complement them impeccably. The backs are fully upholstered, only framed by the wood on the sides. The brown upholstery adds an element of understated sophistication, ensuring that these chairs complement a variety of interior styles. The colour is elegantly understated and accentuates the fullness of the seats and backs.

It is evident that a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail were of optimum importance for the maker of these chairs. Created during a modern age of material innovation, aesthetic creativity, and instantly recognizable design, these chairs bring together the best of two style movements, resulting in a look that is, and will remain, timeless.
