This floor lamp is the “G20” model by Swedish designer Hans-Agne Jakobsson. This mid-century model couples brass and fabric, creating a beautiful modern look.

This appealing and very rare lamp consists of a pleated fabric shade that is supported by a thin brass pole. The shade, which is closed on the top, spreads the light evenly and gives a beautiful subdued light that is very characteristic for the work of Hans-Agne Jakobsson.

At the base of the stem, there is a signature brass ring that can be found on multiple of Jakobsson’s designs, such as on the “B99” table lamp. The heavy foot that keeps the lamp firmly in place, is made of cast iron and is marked “Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB” at its base.

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The pleated shade has some minor marks and stains. We recommend re-upholstery of the shade; please reach out for more information.

About the designer:

Hans Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior decorator and furniture designer. He was famed for his imaginative light fixtures, which utilize unique angles and materials to create a soft quality of light.

For example, in his 1960 fixture, Lampadaire, the lampshade is opaque and ribbed in order to distribute ribbons of light. Born in 1919 in Gotland, Sweden, Jakobsson went on to apprentice as a carpenter before studying architecture in Gothenburg. First working as an industrial designer for General Motors, he later founded his own company after being an assistant to the designers Carl Malmsten and Werner West.

Today, Jakobsson’s works can be found in private homes as well as public institutions throughout Sweden. He died in 2009 in Sweden. ~H.

The brass has minor marks and scratches. Due to the nature and age of the materials, the lamp may have discolouration. This lamp is compatible with an E26 / E27 (standard) fittings. We recommend using LED bulbs. All lighting can be converted for US usage.

Finnish designer, Lisa Johansson-Pape, was among the most significant lighting designers in the second half of the 1900s. Working for the Stockmann owned manufacturer, Orno, she developed a design language rooted in functionality, simplicity, and the careful shaping of light. Johansson-Pape believed that a lamp should create a pleasant atmosphere, allowing form and decoration to support rather than overshadow its purpose.

This pair of model “1116” ceiling lights combines opal glass and brass to create an iconic Finnish modern look. The fixtures are composed around broad, gently tapering shades whose softly curved profiles create an elegant silhouette against the ceiling. The opal glass diffuses light evenly across the entire surface, concealing the light source while producing a warm and comfortable glow. A discreet brass cap completes the shades, introducing a subtle decorative accent and a welcome contrast to the smooth, luminous glass. The transition between materials allows the brass to complement rather than dominate the composition. When illuminated, the shades appear almost weightless, floating beneath the ceiling while softly radiating light throughout the room. Their restrained geometry and balanced proportions embody the calm sophistication that characterises the best examples of Finnish mid-century design.

While Lisa Johansson-Pape was also active as a furniture designer, her lighting models brought her world-wide fame. Her work was presented in New York’s World Fair of 1939 and the Milan Triennial IX, where she won an award in 1951, and model “1116” is a clear example of her artistry.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson was one of the central figures of Swedish lighting design during the post-war decades. After training as both a carpenter and architect, he founded his own company in Markaryd in 1951, where he developed lighting that softened the harsher qualities of electric illumination through beautiful shades, natural materials, and restrained forms.

Jakobsson designed this pair of wall lamps in the mid-20th century. It was a revolutionary period in design throughout Scandinavia, where function and form merged in the most intriguing ways. The designer prized the marriage of form and function, with a poise that is hard to imitate or force. The shape and materials of the shades set the overall aesthetic of these lamps. The opaque glass is made into a bulbous form with a that narrows towards the bottom, held securely by the brass shade holders. The holders feel airy, slender, and minimal, allowing the focus to be on the shades and the light they emit. The brass construction also creates a rich, warm glow, enhancing the light while exuding a sense of effortless sophistication. The mid-20th century was defined by leading Swedish designers’ sleek and innovative modernist creations, and Jakobsson’s prowess is evident here as these lamps can both stand out or blend into a room, depending on the interior style.
