Denmark has a long history of furniture-making. Through the 19th century, the country also had a very strong legacy of cabinetmaking, or producing traditional furniture by hand. In the early 20th century, these cabinetmaking traditions began to merge with modern forces to create simple and refined pieces like this dining chair set.

Smooth and unadorned, the design focuses on functionality yet does not stray from form. The chairs reveal an appreciation for the quality of the materials used and excellent craftsmanship. Embodying the ‘less is more’ principle, the frame of the chairs follows a beautiful rectangular symmetry, with legs tapering slightly and grounding the frame down. This pair of chairs is a great representation of the quality and craftsmanship of Danish master cabinetmakers and the immediately recognisable characteristics of Scandinavian design.

These armchairs combine compact upholstered bodies with exposed stained beech elements that give the design its distinctive look.
