This large woven “Canton” rattan easy chair has a distinctive curved shape and was designed by Kay Fisker. The armrests are wide and go all the way from the legs up to the back rest creating a strong line. The open characteristic of the rattan gives the chair an open and airy feel. On the back side you can see the exposed structure that branches out supporting the arm and backrest. The chair contains a loose cushion for extra comfort which has been reupholstered in a premium bouclé fabric by Dedar.

About the designer:

Kay Otto Fisker was a Danish architect and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. Fisker was a Danish exponent of the international functionalism movement. While Kay Fisker is most remembered for his architectural achievements, throughout his career he created many popular furniture designs. The producer of this chair, Robert Wengler, was a German craftsman. In the early 20th century he discovered rattan as constructing material, which was still exotic and new at that time. Mastering this new material he became the pioneer and most skillful wicker maker in Denmark influencing many iconic danish designers, such as Arne Jacobsen, Viggo Boesen and Kay Bojesen.

Condition:

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. There are a few defects on the cane.
