Paavo Tynell five-arm chandelier for Taito Oy - Model 9029/5, Finland 1950s

This chandelier from the 'Concerto' series, also known as the “Bridal Bouquet” chandelier, consists out of five lampshades in opaline glass on a brass frame decorated with beautiful brass applications. The chandelier is made out of five brass stems that move upwardly through a brass bowl and then curving outwards. The glass shades are oval and supported by a small shell. In between the shades are delicate brass leaves and flowers. This classic and at the same time frivolous chandelier casts a warm glow of light. The chandelier is fully marked with “Made in Finland, Oy Taito AB, 9029-5”.

About the designer:

Paavo Tynell, who was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1890, started his career as a tin and blacksmith at the company Kory Oy. Simultaneously he studied at the Helsinki University of Industrial Arts, to which he graduated as a ‘master craftsman’ in 1913. In 1918, Tynell co-founded the metalwork and lighting company Oy Taito Ab. At first the company focused mostly on interior and exterior metalwork, such as statues and railings. Later, during the 1930s, Taito also began producing lamps for the lighting sector. Both Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck would design works for the company. Read more about Paavo Tynell.
