With a legacy spanning over seven decades, Hans-Agne Jakobsson redefined modern design by seamlessly blending form and function. While Jakobsson designed and produced various types of furniture, his lighting received greater international attention - and not without good reason, as this lamp showcases. The craftsmanship involved in creating this piece is evident in the seamless construction and attention to detail. This “G20” model couples brass and fabric, creating a beautiful modern look. This very rare model consists of a pleated fabric shade that is supported by a thin brass pole. The shade, which is closed at the top, difuses the light evenly and gives a beautiful subdued light that is very characteristic for the work of Hans-Agne Jakobsson. At the top of the stem, there is a signature brass ring that can be found on multiple of Jakobsson’s designs, such as on the “B99” table lamp. The heavy foot that keeps the lamp firmly in place, is made of cast iron.

The lamp is constructed around a slender wooden column rising from a unique tripod wooden base, whose splayed legs provide both stability and a light visual footprint. Three circular glass shelves are positioned at different heights along the wooden body, creating a sculptural arrangement that appears to float around the central column. Their transparent surfaces preserve the openness of the design while providing practical resting places for books, glasses, or small decorative objects. Glössner & Co. was a Swedish glass company founded by brothers Karl-Erik and Harry Glössner, active from the 1930s. Bo Notini was among the most accomplished lighting designers working in Sweden with Glössner & Co.. Notini came from a family of designers, his grandfather Harald and father Gunnar being key figures of Swedish lighting creation. Bo Notini often incorporated etched or sandblasted decoration into understated, elegant forms, in the case of this lamp, they take the form of birds, clouds and raindrops - all elements inspired by nature. These stylised elements are etched on an amber glass shade suspended from a slender brass rod and canopy, creating a light composition. The gently curved sides of the shade soften the simple profile, while the polished brass introduces a subtle metallic counterpoint to the textured glass. When lit, the amber glass diffuses a warm glow that highlights the etched decoration from within. With their origins in a small workshop in Aarhus, Fog & Mørup was founded by Ansgar Fog and Erik Mørup. The company grew their reputation gradually, and by the 1930s and 40s, were one of the most well-known manufacturers in Denmark. Many of their most successful models explored the relationship between light, structure, and ornament, resulting in fixtures that functioned as decorative objects even when unlit, and this hanging lamp model is the perfect example.

Model “E8655” stands apart through its remarkably graphic composition. Suspended from slender stems, the fixtures culminate in radial arrangements that resemble flowers, propellers, or stylised sun representations. Lights in varying lengths extend outward from a dark central structure, creating a striking contrast that emphasizes the geometry of the design.
