This pair of wall lamps is among the most stunning models of Jakobsson’s. With each brass frame holding five smoked, translucent glass shades, these lamps are the upgraded, larger version of the model V 149/3. The design clearly shows the Swedish designer’s studies in architecture, with beautiful geometric forms and symmetry dominating the structures.
The dominating visual feature of this model is the brass structure with five brass tubes connected by a large, vertical brass slat. The tubes are arranged on two levels, with two on the upper, and three on the lower level, with each one holding a translucent, smoked glass shade. The shades resemble pressed spheres and have a generous size. Thanks to the arrangement of the brass poles and bulbs, this wall lamp divides the light evenly and uniquely. When switched on, the light coming from the smoked glass shades brighten the yellow brass beautifully, as if it was also glowing from the inside. The vertical slat overreaches the shades, visually elongating the design, emphasizing the design’s geometrical nature.
These wall lamps have all the characteristics Jakobsson was famous for; they are elegant and stylish, and while the design allows them to be big and shiny, they never become tacky. This model was produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, Markaryd in Sweden, and the design was still popular in the 1980s, even making an appearance in the 1983 – 1984 Philips catalogue.

About the Designer:
Born in 1919 in Gotland, Sweden, Hans Agne Jakobsson is one of the most well-known Swedish lighting designers. He did his carpenter apprenticeship before studying architecture in Gothenburg.
First working as an industrial designer for General Motors, he later founded his own company after being an assistant to the designers Carl Malmsten and Werner West. In 1950, due to Christmas, he added a model of hanging lamps in small strips of pine in one of his stores to soften the lively lighting of the shop window. The people who were passing by were immediately seduced by this hanging lamp, which started it all. He established his own company in 1951: Hans Agne Jakobsson AB and began producing this model in his factories and achieved success abroad as well. In 50 years, he designed more than 2000 lamps with unique designs.
He used materials and experimented with multiple techniques, for example using fabrics with fringes, blown glass of colour and smoked glass. His great diversity resulted in a wide range of timeless lighting models. These pieces continue to seduce design lovers, as they adapt themselves to any interior, without blending into the background.
Today, Jakobsson’s works can be found in private homes as well as public institutions throughout Sweden. The designer passed away in 2009 in Sweden, leaving behind a great legacy. ~H.

The most famous Finnish industrial designer, Paavo Tynell came to be known as the “man who illuminated Finland” thanks to his notable lighting designs. A master craftsman himself, Tynell’s designs were born from a traditional aesthetic with a modern sensibility, mixed with an extensive use of glass and brass as material.
In the early to mid-20th century, he designed a number of iconic lamps that are still sought after today, including this pair of model “2025 A” milk glass ceiling lamps. This pair embodies the sleek and simple aesthetic that characterised early modern Finnish design. Still, even in the absence of ornamentation or elaborate shapes and forms, there was always an emphasis on interesting materials. Milk glass, appropriately named for its opaque or transparent pure ivory white tone, was first created in Venice in the 16th century, known as Lattimo. At that time, it was widely used for decorative purposes and continued to be popular during the 20th century when the material was used to decorate households as home accents. To complement the glass material, the shades feature a bold geometric shape, which is the main visual point of interest. Nickel-plated brass ceiling caps connect the shades to the ceiling, offering the lamps a cool sheen even when unlit. The circular caps balance out the angular shape of the shades. Milk glass was a popular material for lighting fixtures in the mid-20th century, due in part to its ability to soften and diffuse light, as this model demonstrates. Tynell was a master of working with this material, and his milk glass lamps are some of his most sought-after designs.
The 20th century was a time of great innovation in Finnish design, as creatives like Tynell pushed the boundaries of what was possible with new materials and manufacturing techniques. During this time, there was a strong emphasis on simplicity and functionality, leading to more designers creating pieces like this model. Both beautiful and practical, model “2025 A” left an unforgettable mark in the history of light and ambiance.

Itsu, short for Itä-Suomen Sähkö (eng. Eastern Finland Electricity), was a small, lesser-known manufacturer that produced characteristic models in small quantities. Itsu stands as a beacon of innovation in mid-century modern design. This pair of model "EY60" lamps represent an era in which Finland saw the birth of many of its most iconic lighting models.
By the 1950s Finland had established itself as a force for innovation in design. The best qualities of Finnish light fixtures’ are their atmospheric light and disciplined, functionalist design that is not shorn of subtle decorative elements. This wall lamp model shares the characteristic perforated brass shade holders as the brass chandelier models designed by Mauri Almari for Itsu. The model utilises the mid-century era’s popular combination of brass and glass; the elongated bell shape of the shades shows off the frosted glass and the play of shadows it creates when the light is lit. Accentuating these shapes is the polished brass that features a nice patina. Overall, the composition of the shapes and clever decorative elements give this pair a personality that isn’t loud but still stands out, which is an essentially Finnish design virtue. The refined work and unique work of Finnish lighting designers has made their creations increasingly valued by collectors in the know.
Finnish mid-century design is celebrated for its minimalist sophistication, organic feel, and impeccable attention to detail. These characteristics are perfectly captured in this pair, making a wonderful addition to an array of interiors.

While Hans-Agne Jakobsson designed and produced various types of furniture, his lighting received greater international attention, and not without good reason. As these “V-149” wall sconces showcase, the Swedish designer mastered both the direction and colour of his lighting designs.
With the brass frames holding the glass shades, these lamps clearly show the Swedish designer’s studies in architecture, with beautiful geometric forms and symmetry dominating the structures. The popularity of brass in Swedish mid-century modern lighting design can be attributed to its golden hue, which adds warmth to the style's streamlined aesthetic. This wall sconce pair further exemplify the mid-century modern movement's guiding principles through their clean lines and geometric shapes. The structure is composed of a back-plate and single stem holding an elongated brass socket. The translucent glass shades stand out not only through the pairing of materials, but also by their generous size compared to the delicate appearance of the fixtures. These wall sconces divide the light evenly and brighten the yellow brass beautifully, creating a cosy and warm visual effect. This model was produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s own company in Markaryd, Sweden.
Sconces are a timeless type of lighting fixture that easily elevate their surroundings. These fixtures never go out of style, and this is especially true for mid-century brass models like these lamps. While already stunning individually, these light models are even more effective when placed in close proximity to each other.

Mid 20th century lighting design endures in popularity for numerous reasons. The era’s designers managed to make practical design look beautiful, while maintaining the highest quality. The mid-20th century brought about a design revolution throughout Europe, where function and form merged in the most intriguing ways. One such example of this era’s creativity is this exceptional wall lamp.
This beautiful piece is characterised by its distinctive marriage of materials combines brass and lacquered metal in a way that is emblematic of the era's fascination with contrast. When looking at the materials’ finish, the glossy sheen of the warm brass stands out against the matte lacquered metal. Similarly, the chromatic juxtaposition of the back and front plate catches the eye, creating visual interest. The backplate has an irregular, organic outline that softens the minimal construction. Mounted in front is a rounded brass element that projects outward from the wall almost like a petal with subtle perforations. The asymmetry of the composition prevents the fixture from feeling static, while the composition of the shapes and clever decorative elements give this light a personality that isn’t loud but still stands out.
The timeless appeal of this wall lamp is a reminder of an era when designers were free to explore new horizons in crafting distinctive and captivating lighting fixtures that continue to inspire and illuminate our lives today. Its compact scale and sculptural silhouette allow it to function both as lighting and as a small wall-mounted object within an interior.

Mid-century Finnish lighting managed to balance decorative softness with the restrained practicality. Rather than relying on heavy ornamentation, designers focused on atmosphere, proportion, and the subtle interaction between materials and light. Fixtures from this period often combined clean geometric forms with textile or opaline surfaces that softened the light and created a warmer domestic atmosphere.
This ceiling lamp sets itself apart through its elegant pleated form and restrained use of brass. The shade expands outward into a broad, rectangular silhouette with softly tapered sides, creating a geometry that feels both architectural and delicate. The pleated fabric introduces rhythm across the surface, drawing the eye toward the small brass finial beneath the centre of the fixture. When illuminated, the textile diffuses the light warmly, allowing the folds to become more pronounced and giving the lamp a gentle glow. The material feels organic, yet elegant with its flowing contours. The brass detail acts as a visual anchor within the composition, offering a subtle contrast against the softness of the fabric shade, and drawing the eye in. Despite the relatively simple construction, the interplay between the structured shape and the textile surface gives the lamp a distinctive presence.
Mounted close to the ceiling, the lamp provides a calm and balanced source of light. It represents a strong decorative detail without taking up a lot of space, thus being appropriate for interiors of various sizes. Although regardless of where it is placed, this piece is sure to bring warmth and subtle sculptural to a room.

During the mid-20th century, Scandinavian lighting designers frequently turned to organic forms as a way to soften the harsher industrial modernism. Rather than relying on strict geometry alone, many fixtures incorporated flowing silhouettes inspired by nature, balancing functional lighting with a more decorative and atmospheric presence. Brass was the material of choice during this period, being able to be shaped into sculptural forms that retain their sense of craftsmanship.
This pair of wall lights captures the essence of the era through its branch-like composition and asymmetrical structure. Each fixture is formed from curving brass arms that extend upward in a fluid, botanical arrangement, supporting four individual light sockets positioned throughout the length of the pieces. The lines blow naturally from the wall mount, creating a silhouette that resembles growing stems, and not a mechanical construction. Despite the decorative quality of the composition, the design remains balanced and elegant. The polished brass surface reflects the warm glow of the bulbs, emphasizing the rhythm of the curved forms while adding depth and variation to the surface. The exposed bulbs become part of the design, reinforcing the sculptural appearance and contributing to the soft ambient light produced by the fixtures.
Wall lighting from this period was designed not only to illuminate a room, but also to complement their surroundings through movement and ambiance. These wall lamps fulfill their role through their utilitarian, as well as clear decorative effect. Their combination of fluid brass lines and warm light gives the fixtures a distinct presence without becoming excessive.

Gunnel Nyman (19 September 1909 – 7 October 1948) was a Finnish glass and metal artist, and one of the leading figures of modern Finnish glass design. During the post-war era she transitioned to glassware and collaborated or worked on commission with various glassworks including Riihimäki, Karhula-Iittala and Nuutajärvi. She was also an advocate of early mass-produced glassware, with her work featuring organic lines and focusing on the characteristics of glass itself.
This ceiling lamp embodies the sleek and simple aesthetic that characterised Finnish design in the 1950s. Even in the absence of ornamentation, there was always an emphasis on interesting materials. Milk glass, appropriately named for its opaque or transparent ivory white tone, was first created in Venice in the 16th century, and was known as Lattimo. At that time, it was widely used for decorative purposes and continued to be popular during the 20th century, when the material was used for home accents to decorate households. This lamp has an eye-catching rounded cone shape, with a blunted end and soft edges. Thanks to the concealed ceiling holder, the piece is flush mounted, staying close to the ceiling and allowing the glass shade to remain the focal point of the design. Nyman was a master of working with milk glass, and her lamps of this material are some of her most sought-after designs. She considered material an essential factor in design. Form, proportion and decoration were only there to enhance the properties inherent in the material. The Finnish design blueprint that was set during the first few decades of the 1900s is based on characteristics that can be traced in this lamp model: functionality, an understated, unornamented design created from high quality materials - and most importantly, by a skilled craftsperson.
Although Gunnel Nyman’s career was cut short by an untimely death, she had enough time to give a new direction to Finnish glass design. At the Milan Triennial in 1951, Nyman was awarded the gold medal for glass posthumously.

Art Deco emerged from the 1925 Paris Exposition, celebrating craftsmanship, modern materials, and stylised forms - balancing decorative flair with functional clarity. European designers became known during this period for combining bold forms with the durability of fine materials to create sophisticated lighting models like this set of three wall lamps.
These lamps perfectly marry strong edges with rounded curves to obtain the ideal balance of form. The set is constructed from patinated brass, and the material’s tones elegantly highlight both its age and craftsmanship. The interplay between the rich patina of the brass and the milk-white shades create a harmonious contrast, while the symmetrical arrangement reinforces the balance and rhythm central to Art Deco design. The visual interest of this set is accentuated by the form of the hands that suspend from the wall mounting to the body of the lamps - reminiscent of a hand holding a torch or even a wine glass. When lit, the lamps create an exceptionally atmospheric light, giving the brass a warm colour. Wall lamps such as this are a timeless example of how thoughtful craftsmanship can result in lighting fixtures that transcend their utilitarian purpose, becoming works of art in their own right. Today, we consider Art Deco and the early 20th century era a golden age for lighting design. During these decades, some of the most significant luminaries were created, and remain highly sought-after today.
This wall lamp set bridges sculptural presence and domestic functionality. It embodies the enduring qualities of the Art Deco movement in Europe: geometric refinement, tonal richness, and atmospheric light. The qualities of this set transform it into a bold design statement, while still able to complement a modern space.

Finnish designer, Lisa Johansson-Pape, was among the most significant lighting designers in the second half of the 1900s. Working for the Stockmann owned manufacturer, Orno, she developed a design language rooted in functionality, simplicity, and the careful shaping of light. Johansson-Pape believed that a lamp should create a pleasant atmosphere, allowing form and decoration to support rather than overshadow its purpose.
This pair of model “1116” ceiling lights combines opal glass and brass to create an iconic Finnish modern look. The fixtures are composed around broad, gently tapering shades whose softly curved profiles create an elegant silhouette against the ceiling. The opal glass diffuses light evenly across the entire surface, concealing the light source while producing a warm and comfortable glow. A discreet brass cap completes the shades, introducing a subtle decorative accent and a welcome contrast to the smooth, luminous glass. The transition between materials allows the brass to complement rather than dominate the composition. When illuminated, the shades appear almost weightless, floating beneath the ceiling while softly radiating light throughout the room. Their restrained geometry and balanced proportions embody the calm sophistication that characterises the best examples of Finnish mid-century design.
While Lisa Johansson-Pape was also active as a furniture designer, her lighting models brought her world-wide fame. Her work was presented in New York’s World Fair of 1939 and the Milan Triennial IX, where she won an award in 1951, and model “1116” is a clear example of her artistry.
