Maison Arlus, a French lighting design company, was founded in the early 20th century by Robert and Jean Arlus. The company quickly gained recognition for its innovative and stylish lighting fixtures, which were characterised by their use of high-quality materials and focus on unique design.

This beautiful wall lamp is attributed to Félix Agostini, a French sculptor and designer who was active in the mid-20th century. His manner of lighting design was abstract and stylised, often incorporating animals or mythological icons. The form of this wall lamp assumes a more minimalist look at first glance, yet is coupled with subtle decorative elements that adds to the uniqueness of the piece. The shape of the shade and pairing of materials creates the overall aesthetic impression, introducing modernism to the classic style of a one-armed wall lamp. The gilt bronze arm that holds the glass shade is reminiscent of a deer’s antler, which further enhances the visual interest of the piece. When lit, the lamp creates an exceptionally atmospheric light, giving the bronze a warm colour. Wall lamps such as this are a timeless example of how simplicity, combined with thoughtful craftsmanship, can result in lighting fixtures that transcend their utilitarian purpose, becoming works of art in their own right. Today, we consider the mid-century era a golden age for lighting design. During these decades, some of the most significant luminaries were created, and remain highly sought-after today.

Over the years, Maison Arlus collaborated with a number of notable designers, including Jacques Biny, Pierre Guariche, and Michel Buffet, and continued to produce a wide range of lighting fixtures that were both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
