Mid-century European design was shaped by a growing interest in combining traditional craftsmanship with modern forms. Across much of the continent, furniture makers moved away from heavy historical revival styles, yet they rarely embraced the strict industrial minimalism seen elsewhere. Instead, designers worked with solid woods, natural textiles, and carefully considered construction, creating pieces that felt both contemporary and rooted in long-standing cabinetmaking traditions.
Dining chairs like this set of eight reveal how furniture makers used small details to give their pieces a distinct identity. The most striking characteristic of the model is the ladder-back construction. Each backrest is composed of three horizontal slats, their undulating silhouettes introducing movement and depth to the otherwise linear frame. The repetition of these forms creates a distinctive rhythm across the set, particularly when the chairs are arranged around a table. The solid proportions and thick wooden elements offer the set a strong, imposing feel. Beneath the seats, stretchers reinforce the structure while echoing the decorative language of the backrests. The seats themselves are upholstered in green mohair, introducing a softer surface that contrasts with the firmness of the oak. The richness of the fabric adds depth to the composition, while its organic tone complements the natural warmth of the wood.
Viewed as a complete set, the chairs possess a strong collective presence, allowing individual details to create a stronger visual effect when viewed together. The 1960s produced furniture that valued material quality and durability while still allowing room for individual character and regional influences - perfectly visible within this set.

Art Deco, the glamorous and influential design movement that emerged in France during the early 20th century, left an indelible mark on the world of furniture design. Characterised by its bold geometric shapes, rich materials, and glamorous aesthetics, Art Deco transformed the way we perceive interior spaces. It was a testament to the fusion of form and function, and this ethos is beautifully exemplified in this pair of armchairs.
This pair demonstrates a confident silhouette in which every structural element contributes to the overall design. The chairs are built on substantial plinth bases that anchor the composition, while the upholstered seats and backrests provide comfort. Their defining feature is the sweeping curved wooden supports that rise from the base to form the armrests, creating a continuous structural line that contrasts with the strong angles of the back panel and base. This elegant curve introduces movement to the otherwise geometric design and highlights the craftsmanship required to shape the wood. The armrests are slender and smooth, preserving the visual lightness of the upper section despite the generous forms. Wooden veneers wrap the body, the warm grain complementing the muted olive upholstery with its soft texture. Viewed from the side, the combination of the curved supports, straight back panel, and block-like base creates a layered profile that is both sculptural and highly functional.
Comfort and craftsmanship are equally central to the design of this pair. They possess the quiet confidence characteristic of European Art Deco furniture, making them equally suited to vintage interiors and contemporary spaces that appreciate timeless design.

During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress. The movement peaked in popularity around the 1930s, spreading across Europe and the United States up to the start of World War II. Art Deco designs featured rare, expensive, innovative materials and exquisite craftsmanship.
In line with the Art Deco movement during which they were created, these chairs illustrate the bold, rich and luxurious aesthetic of the era. Before giving way to mid-century modernism and its focus on function over form, Art Deco pieces coupled geometry and craftsmanship to arrive at elegantly impressive additions to interiors. This pair of armchairs live up to their rich history through their strikingly geometric form. Both the backs and the armrests introduce clear angles and wooden elements with multiple edges. The chairs feature back and seat cushions, upholstered in a soft deep green fabric that draws in the eye, bringing a warmth and an earthy richness that pairs beautifully with the beech frames. The armrests are stripped down to their wooden structure, with a tapering element further highlighting the sculptural quality of the model. The short legs, with their carved ridges, balance out the voluptuous bodies, while flowing effortlessly as a continuation of the armrests to ensure the stability of the armchairs.
Created during an age of innovation - from materials, to shapes and techniques - these chairs showcase that the European furniture designers’ artistic approach was anchored in the Art Deco movement. Through their form and quality craftsmanship, this pair of armchairs makes for the perfect stylish touch of warmth and charm.

This elegant armchair pair by Dutch designer, Bas Van Pelt is a classically luxe model with a level of craftsmanship that’s immediately visible to any eye. The construction of this rare 1940s design is simple at its core, but thanks to the details, it is a unique representation of early Dutch modernism.
While Bas Van Pelt's creative work was primarily influenced by the 1920s straight lines dominated by The Hague School, this model is the result of his more mature design era, which was primarily dominated by natural materials and more curvature. While made of solid wood and wicker, these armchairs have an open feel thanks to the airy arrangement of the arms and legs. The curved lines of the armrests are beautifully crafted and follow the raised seat’s angle. The curves nicely contrast with the straight lines of the frame, keeping it from appearing too strict. Apart from the expert woodwork, the upholstered seats stand out as well. The fabric is tightly fitted within the frame, and the seat’s thick shape is an especially pleasing element that offers plenty of comfort both figuratively and literally. The woven wicker backs further enhance the visual interest and thus allow the chairs to stand out. The block legs blend seamlessly into the back and form a gentle angle. Thanks to the well-chosen proportions and materials, this armchair pair provides great comfort. This model can be easily used as an accent thanks to the characteristic details, but can also complement a wide variety of interior styles with its refined and elegant style.
Bas van Pelt’s progressive designs were, in many ways, ahead of his era. The Dordrecht-born designer’s furniture models are quite rare, thus a few are preserved in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam for modern art, contemporary art, and design.

Mid century lounge chairs often explore the balance between structure and comfort, especially through the combination of solid wood and upholstered seating. Designers in this period - like Folke Ohlsson - moved away from fully rigid, heavy forms and allowed open construction to contribute to the overall visual impression.
This armchair follows that approach through its use of the wooden frame and upholstered body. The structure is defined by a sculptural wooden base that wraps around the lower part of the chair, offering a sturdy base and visual outline to the piece. The legs are thin and slightly angled, giving the chair a stable stance without overpowering the silhouette. Above, the seat and backrest are upholstered in green leather, with a cushion and headrest that create a layered and comfortable look. The leather’s colour complements the warm tone of the wood. At the same time, the material softens the geometry of the frame through its smooth and sleek look. What makes this piece stand out is that it balances comfort and structure, in line with timeless mid-century modernism. This model can be easily styled in a reading nook or as an accent chair in a living room, offering both comfort and a strong visual presence.
Folke Ohlsson was one of the first Swedish designers who managed to bring “Swedish Modern” design to the United States’ market successfully. According to the story, when Ohlsson arrived in the United States, he took his suitcase and cardboard to hotels all over the country inviting salesmen, department stores, and decorators to view his miniature designs and watch as he disassembled and reassembled his chair design. He quickly became notorious for his patented “knock-down” construction that reduced shipping and storage costs and helped to make the Swedish company Dux a household name in the USA.

The unique design style, “Amsterdamse School”, was an influential Dutch architectural and design movement that emerged in the early 20th century, which left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of the Netherlands and on Europe on a larger scale. Beyond its architectural achievements, the Amsterdamse School also extended its influence to interior design and furniture, giving rise to a distinctive style that reflects a harmonious blend of craftsmanship, artistic expression, and social ideals exemplified by this pair of chairs with an enduring appeal, quality, and style.
The frames are deliberately straightforward yet bold, giving the chairs a grounded presence that feels both honest and enduring. Each piece features squared legs connected by stretchers that reinforce the straight structure while maintaining a clean visual rhythm. The seats and backrests are upholstered in a textured green fabric that complements the wood, adding softness and comfort to the otherwise solid construction. This upholstery provides a tactile contrast to the geometry of the frames, making the chairs inviting without losing their disciplined form. From every angle, the chairs reveal thoughtful joinery and a careful balance of shape, with no unnecessary embellishment, only purposeful design choices that emphasise durability, comfort, and visual cohesion.
The set's geometric elements makes them a perfect addition to any interior, perfect for bringing an effortlessly elegant element to a room. With their clean lines, understated presence and quality materials, these chairs exude a sense of timelessness, while simultaneously maintaining their versatility.

In an era marked by unprecedented cultural dynamism and bold artistic expression, the Art Deco movement emerged as a testament to modernity and sophistication. This period witnessed the creation of exquisite furniture pieces that epitomised the union of form and function, with this pair of armchairs standing out as a prime example.
In line with the Art Deco movement during which they were designed and manufactured, these chairs illustrate the bold, rich and luxurious aesthetic of the era. Before giving way to mid-century modernism and its focus on function over form, Art Deco pieces coupled geometry and craftsmanship to arrive as elegantly impressive additions to the era’s interiors. The upholstery is soft but controlled, with clean planes and subtle curves rather than excess padding. The seats are deep and inviting, designed for practical use, while the proportions remain compact enough to feel composed in a room. The wooden elements frame the upholstery and emphasise the chair’s structure, reinforcing its Art Deco character. Every detail works together, from the block-like legs to the precise transitions between wood and fabric, creating a chair model that feels deliberate, balanced, and quietly strong.
As a pair, this design captures the lasting appeal of Art Deco furniture: comfort shaped by discipline and elegance rooted in form rather than ornament. It works equally well as a statement chair in a living room or as a refined accent in a bedroom or study. Its presence offers visual weight without heaviness and comfort without excess, in true Art Deco fashion.
