In an era marked by unprecedented cultural dynamism and bold artistic expression, the Art Deco movement emerged as a testament to modernity and sophistication. This period witnessed the creation of exquisite furniture pieces that epitomised the union of form and function, with this pair of armchairs standing out as a prime example.

These armchairs combine the disciplined geometry associated with early modernist seating with the material richness that remained central to Art Deco interiors. The exposed wooden frames feature a continuous linear structure around the chairs, bending outward into broad armrests before descending directly into the sled-style bases. That uninterrupted curve gives the silhouette a strong architectural quality while also softening the severity of the angular construction. The frames are executed in richly toned wood with pronounced grain patterns that become especially visible across the wide arm supports. In contrast, the seats and backrests are upholstered in black hide, introducing a heavily textured surface that changes subtly under light. The material gives the chairs a tactile depth, setting them apart from pieces with smoother upholstery. Thus, this quality creates a contrast between the polished wood and the textured, organic finish of the hide. The proportions emphasize horizontality and give the chairs a grounded presence within a room. Despite the bold construction, the open sides and visible negative space beneath the seats prevent the pieces from overwhelming a space.

Condition:

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The chairs have recently been reconditioned. Due to the age and nature of the materials, the items may have minor marks and scratches.
