This model “3076-2” table lamp pair was designed by Arne Finne Nielsen for Søholm. Søholm became one of the Denmark's most respected ceramic manufacturers, at a time when when studio pottery enjoyed international acclaim. By the 1960s, the workshop had developed a distinctive visual language characterised by earthy glazes, bold relief decoration, and sculptural forms that blurred the boundary between functional objects and ceramic art. Many of its lamps reflect this approach, transforming stoneware into atmospheric lighting while celebrating the expressive qualities of the material.

This pair is a striking example of mid-century Danish ceramic design, combining the era's affinity for natural materials with an emphasis on uniqueness. The lamps stand out through the clearly defined silhouette and unique glaze. The shape gives them a structured, almost architectural presence, while still retaining a sense of softness through its roundness. The glaze plays a central role in defining the objects: it light and dark, earthy hues and stunning relief patterns create a visual treat. The surfaces retain slight irregularities, reflecting the handmade nature of the material. At the same time, the bodies display organic carvings, reminding of the connection between art and nature. Above, the shades introduces a strong geometric element, diffusing the light evenly and balancing the expressive base. The dialogue between these two elements creates a cohesive and well-proportioned composition.

This balance of precision and handmade charm is characteristic of mid-century Danish ceramics, where material and process are allowed to remain visible, and so did the hand of the maker. As a result, the lamps function not only as a source of light, but also as expressive objects that reflects the depth and quality of Denmark’s design tradition.
