Swedish architect and furniture designer Axel Einar Hjorth served as the lead designer for Sweden’s Nordiska Kompaniet department store from 1926 to 1938. During this time, Hjorth designed many collections from the “Sportstugemöbler” series to this "Typenko" model.
Elegant in its simplicity, this "Typenko" bookcase puts the emphasis on showcasing the material through a simple, uncluttered design. It deserts any unnecessary ornamentation in favour of the traditional mid-century design philosophy, which centres around craftsmanship and functionality. This piece features exposed shelves, which are an honest and functional design element. The open form makes it perfect to display anything, from books to design objects as there is generous storage space. Thanks to the airy arrangement of the shelves, the model allows the veneered wood’s varied colour and rich grain to shine beautifully. The pattern is so arresting that it can serve as a decorative element in a space on its own.
The Swedish company Nordiska Kompaniet manufactured this model with utmost care for its quality and design. The company was among the most renowned Swedish manufacturers during the mid-century era, working with some of the most well-known Scandinavian designers - and this "Typenko" model is a prime example of the great success these collaborations resulted in.

This lovely bookcase designed by Grete Jalk for P. Jeppesen reflects the Danish designer’s aesthetic—clean and highly functional, yet creative.
Danish mid-century pieces were often created with a functional purpose in mind, rather than decorative, as this bookcase exemplifies. Elegant in its simplicity, it puts the emphasis on showcasing the material through a simple, uncluttered design. This model deserts any unnecessary ornamentation in favour of the traditional Danish design philosophy, which centres around craftsmanship and practicality. A “bogkasse”, or bookcase is an essential and timeless piece of furniture in Scandinavian homes, where it serves both a practical and an aesthetic role. This piece features exposed shelves and thanks to their arrangement and the large surfaces, the beautiful grain of the wood is highlighted. The wood grain is warm and expressive, enhanced by a natural finish that highlights the material’s inherent richness.
