Harald Notini was a Swedish sculptor and designer who served as the artistic director of Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik from 1916 onward. Under his leadership, Böhlmarks became an important Swedish lighting manufacturer, producing luminaires that helped define the transition from the refined Swedish Grace movement in the 1920s to the Swedish Modern decades that followed.

Model “6913” is a great example of Swedish Grace. The table lamp features a tapering, fluted shaft in nickel-plated brass. The vertical ribs catch the light to give the otherwise restrained form a remarkable sense of depth and dynamism. The body narrows towards the base before terminating in a circular foot, creating a stable foundation while maintaining the lamp's elegant silhouette. Above, a sawtooth detail provides another eye-catching detail. The design is completed by the broad conical shade, whose crisp geometry complements the taper of the column below. The interplay between the cool metallic finish and the soft texture of the shade creates a pleasing contrast, while the symmetry of the composition reflects the movement's preference for refinement and great craftsmanship. Classic without excess, model “6913” demonstrates Harald Notini's ability to create art that withstands the passage of time, from the interwar period until today.

Today, Notini's work is represented in the collections of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, and his lighting designs remain among the most sought-after examples of early twentieth-century Swedish design.

This model “15490” table lamp was made by Swedish designer and sculptor, Harald Notini. He was the artistic leader at Böhlmarks and is represented at the “Nationalmuseum” in Stockholm. Between the 1920s and 1950s, Böhlmarks was a significant player in the Swedish design movement. Harald Notini, after becoming creative director in 1916, drove the company forward producing what were considered pioneering and distinctive luminaires for the time.

Wherever they are placed, table lamps have been used as practical and decorative focal points since the early 20th century. As this piece showcases, designers managed to master the art of soft, cosy light without blinding or crushing space perception. Crafted with precision and attention to detail, this model is a testament to the aesthetic sensibilities and commitment to quality of both Notini and Böhlmarks. Unlike many designs that relied on elaborate detailing, Notini allowed proportion and material to carry the visual impact. The softly tapered profile of the shade complements the verticality of the base while diffusing the light into a warm and inviting glow. The stem is grounded by a brass sphere with four curved legs stabilizing it, creating a simple yet unique elevated base. Overall, the distinctive design of this table lamp represents mid-century modernism in its purest form, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Its design not only illuminates a space but also adds a sculptural element, making it both a quintessential example of mid-century modern lighting and an interesting visual accent in any interior.

Arvid Böhlmark's lamp factory was a Swedish importer and manufacturer of lighting fixtures between 1872 and 1977. In 1947, at the company's 75th anniversary, Böhlmarks was still counted as Sweden's largest company in its category. As this model shows, their lighting pieces were of the highest quality both in material and visual terms.

With pieces inspired by nature and the tranquility of everyday life, Ilmari Tapiovaara was able to showcase designs that captured the essence of Finnish identity. In a region where darkness dominates much of the year, lighting offers more than illumination - it evokes warmth, optimism and emotional connection. In the case of this sculptural table lamp made of painted metal layers, the comforting resemblance to the beloved character of “Maija Mehiläinen” brings a sense of joy and familiarity into Nordic homes.

Recalling the lovable German children’s book character published in 1912, “Maija Mehiläinen” - meaning Maya the Bee - this lamp carries undeniable charisma, with Maya’s stripes recognisable in the lamp’s structure. The shade is made up of a tall cylindrical form of slender metal layered discs, each layer delicately floating above the next, emitting a soft and diffused glow. Resembling the abdomen part of a honeybee, it stands on three elegant brass legs, running up through the fourteen slates, and finally poking out from the top, bearing a resemblance to delicate bee-like antennae. While having the appearance of the insect itself, it also gives the impression of a beehive - especially when the lamp is switched on and the warm light seeps out in between the gaps of the layers, like drizzling honey from the cracks of honeycomb walls.

This light stands out in the most wholesome and comforting way, capable of evoking dear childhood memories as well as keeping spirits up during the long winter months for those longing for the lightness of spring, full of flowers and life.

Hans Bergström’s designs are just as scarce today as the information available on the Swedish designer, despite his undeniable quality of output. Guided by the mantra, “Light must be white and shine freely,” he designed and produced functional and modern fixtures that were intended to brighten up entire spaces.

The beauty of these stylish lamps lies in the combination of materials, including the accent wooden necks, the brass elements and the scalloped edged shades. The pairing of brass and wood creates an interesting visual effect, where the organic and traditional look of the wood meets the modern look of brass. Swedish lighting manufacturers, like ASEA, were masters of creating designs with great textural variety - as this lovely table lamp shows. The brass elements tie the materials together in a design that is indeed innovative and modern, yet still fresh to the contemporary eye. The beautiful colours and textures of the materials are further emphasised when the light is turned on by the switch on the base. This elegant pair casts an atmospheric light and thus contributes to the warmth of an interior but also fits perfectly on an elegant surface.

This lamp model effortlessly shows off Bergström’s creativity that he always paired with structural precision and material quality. Hans Bergström had a modernist approach based on quality and attention to detail, and was the favourite lighting designer of many fellow architects, among them Bruno Mathsson.‎

Hans Bergström was one of Sweden's foremost lighting designers of the twentieth century. Trained as both an architect and designer, he founded Ateljé Lyktan in 1934 while also creating a number of highly regarded models for ASEA during the 1940s. His work is distinguished by an exceptional understanding of proportion and light, combining carefully selected materials with elegant silhouettes that bridge the decorative traditions of the 1930s and 40s and the emerging Scandinavian modernism of the post-war years.

Model “A4460” demonstrates Bergström's refined approach to composition. A broad brass shade dominates the design, its generous conical profile appearing to float effortlessly above a softly illuminated opaline glass diffuser. The glass introduces a unique element, supporting the shade while being visible from both above and from the side. The interplay between these two elements creates a layered effect, directing light while allowing a warm glow to radiate gently through the glass. Below, a slender fluted wooden stem introduces warmth and visual contrast, its vertical emphasis balancing the expansive geometry of the shade above. Brass details at the base and around the fitting unify the composition, while the restrained palette of brass, wood, and opaline glass reflects the material sophistication for which Bergström became known.

Equally successful as a source of ambient illumination and as a sculptural object, model “A4460” possesses a quiet elegance that transcends trends. Its harmonious balance of geometry, material, and light exemplifies the qualities that continue to make Hans Bergström's designs highly sought after.

The first half of the twentieth century marked a period of innovation in lighting design, where the emphasis was placed on creating fixtures that were functional yet sculptural. As part of the broader modernist movement, this lamp reflects the European design ethos of the time, where form and function were harmonised with a preference for simplicity and elegance.

This innovative table lamp model seamlessly blends tradition with modernity, reflecting the era's design ethos. Lighting manufacturers, like Temde Leuchten, were masters of creating models with great textural variety - as this table lamp shows. The acrylic shade, another signature material of the era, provides a practical function by diffusing light evenly, while simultaneously fulfilling an aesthetic role thanks to its stunning green colour. Moreover, the shade directs the light downwards and prevents any glare, while the material choice imparts a warm, inviting glow when the lamp is illuminated. The use of wood and brass for the body creates an interesting visual effect, along with a lovely colour palette. The wooden base and middle stem showcases the beautiful natural grain and rich tones of the material. The amalgamation of materials creates a harmonious contrast, epitomising the 20th century design principles that sought to marry functionality with form and - most importantly - elegance.

This model “6822” table lamp was made by Swedish designer and sculptor, Harald Notini. He was the artistic leader at Böhlmarks and is represented at the “Nationalmuseum” in Stockholm. Between the 1920s and 1950s, Böhlmarks was a significant player in the Swedish design movement. Harald Notini drove the company forward after becoming creative director in 1916, producing what were considered pioneering and distinctive luminaires for the time. His work from the 1920s is closely associated with the Swedish Grace movement, a uniquely Nordic interpretation of Art Deco that favoured clean lines, restrained ornamentation, and symmetry.

Like most light fixtures of the period, the design of this table lamp assumes a simpler look. Notini prized the marriage of form and function, with a poise that is hard to force or imitate. The construction is straightforward through the use of worked metal, with the piece crafted from patinated brass. The lamp is grounded by the hexagonal base, and flows upwards in a sleek, elegant manner towards a cone-shaped shade. When turned on, the light casts a warm and inviting glow, creating a timeless and comforting ambience. Scandinavian mid-century lighting pieces like this lamp are famous for multiple reasons. This table lamp has an essentially Scandinavian feel, with a combination of interesting materials and masterful design. The allure of this piece is anchored in the warm, inviting glow of the lamp that creates a cosy ambiance in any space.

Swedish lighting design of the mid-20th century was defined by its harmony of craftsmanship, proportion, and function. Rather than seeking attention through ornament, designers worked to achieve a quiet refinement through high-quality materials and precision. This table lamp materialises these ideals both in terms of visual and technical quality. The brass base has a warm reflective surface that subtly catches surrounding light, giving the lamp a refined metallic presence without being overly decorative. Rising from the base is a wooden stem that introduces a contrasting elemental material. The wood adds warmth and texture while visually separating the base from the shade above. Small brass details around the body create a transition between the materials and reinforce the vertical feel of the design. The stem remains narrow and controlled, ensuring that the lamp keeps its light, elegant profile despite the solidity of the materials. The design is completed by a  gently scalloped fabric shade that softens the overall expression, diffusing the light in an ambient and even way that feels intimate rather than harsh. The proportions are carefully judged, allowing the lamp to sit comfortably on a side table, desk, or nightstand while maintaining a strong visual presence. Every element feels intentional, from the mix of materials to the restrained ornamentation, resulting in a design that is both practical and visually pleasing.
