Swedish designer Lennart Bender worked for major design companies in Sweden and abroad during the 20th century, including Electrolux, Ericsson, and Sony, and taught industrial design at Stockholm's Konstfack University for several years. Swedish design is particularly appreciated for its uniqueness and style with an emphasis on functionality and elegance. This pair of ‘Krokus’ lounge chairs embody these principles of Swedish craftsmanship, characterised by their distinctive design and unconventional form.

The ‘Krokus’ model has a rather peculiar shape that immediately catches the eye. The white oval-bodied design is reminiscent of the body of an iris “krokus” flower. This underlines the dynamic and playful form of the chairs, mirroring nature itself and emphasising Scandinavia’s appreciation for nature. The cushioned seats and rounded backrests offer low sitting and a raised profile balancing comfort and functionality. The upholstered seat rests on a sturdy cylindrical resin base, supporting the chair seamlessly and adding to its visual intrigue. The chairs have recently been covered in a beautiful, soft white longhair sheepskin giving them their unique look and adding an element of cosiness. These chairs belong to the Space Age design era, an eccentric style that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s, which features futuristic aesthetics that are both practical and visually appealing. The use of geometric shapes characterises the Space Age style, and the blending of these elements creates an otherworldly atmosphere that is both trendy and functional, as this pair showcases. Whether used as standout accent pieces or as functional seating in a modern setting, they promise to be a lasting symbol of mid-20th century design innovation.

Lennart Bender has received numerous awards for his work, including the prestigious Red Dot Award, the Good Design Award and the Swedish Design Award. He is considered one of Sweden's most influential designers and was also one of the most influential designers for Ulferts Möbler, along with fellow Swedish designer, Arne Norell. Ulferts AB, based in the town of Tibro, Sweden, is still today a family business, run by the third generation of the Ulferts family. The company is proud of its heritage of Swedish quality, innovation and design, and continues to produce high-quality furniture for customers around the world.
