These so-called “boat or cruise chairs” (fauteuils de paquebot in French) are not only visually arresting, but also interesting thanks to their historical use.

The chairs of this pair are made of exotic wood and were used as deck chairs on boats around the mid-century. As most deck chairs on cruisers, the backrests can be folded down, a feature of practicality and functionality. The stand-out feature are the curved armrests that form a line with the back and front legs, creating a beautiful, flowing line. The square backrests, seats and legs balance out the armrests’ shape.
