Italian designers were integral to developing a modern aesthetic in Europe and there's a steady market for their furniture that continues to grow today. Like rattan, bamboo as a material has had a less known role in Italian design but has seen a steady rise in popularity recently.

Bamboo and rattan have always conjured up feelings of whimsy, travel, and pleasure. These armchairs are all that and more: they showcase a precision that was unachievable by methods of mass production, therefore there is the charm that handcrafted pieces possess. Furthermore, the clever utilization of the material’s natural attributes paired with the geometric arrangement guarantee this pair to stand out. The geometric look is also a consequence of the material itself for the simple reason that bamboo does not bend. It is harder than mahogany, and cannot be curved. The rectangular frames are perfectly symmetrical joined by traditional techniques. The airy arrangement assures a light, stylish look. Like their international counterparts, Italian designers prized the marriage of form and function. As such, the bamboo frames have loose seat and back cushions upholstered in a light fabric. The soft texture is very apparent against the organic bamboo and the materials complement each other. During the 20th century, bamboo enjoyed a few resurgences of popularity. Its ability to be both delicate and ornate, as well as bohemian and relaxed means that it fits into a host of different types of interiors.

Italian furniture managed to preserve the uniqueness of handmade pieces well into the 20th century. Bamboo has a place in almost every setting, traditional or modern. It is a grounding force that makes everything feel a bit more at ease.
