As a descendant of the modernist movement of the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century, Brutalism favoured celebrating the imperfect appeal of handmade items. These solid wood chairs have an elemental look aided by the expert construction technique and distinctive “T” shape.
With a robust organic form and an earth-toned palette, this pair of chairs is the embodiment of Brutalism. The chairs have a refined rawness, and with their warm-toned and slightly asymmetrical bodies, they are greatly-balanced pieces. Sensitive touches enliven the brutalist design, visible in the careful craftsmanship. Despite the brutalist characteristics, the chairs still appear sleek and streamlined which is the result of the characteristic T-shaped backrests and the clean edges. The wood’s stunning pattern and textural variety is visible throughout each chair, letting its natural expressiveness guide the design. Instead of many elaborate pieces, brutalist furniture is generally constructed from fewer but larger pieces.
