Danish Modern is an era that defined an essential chapter in design history. Denmark was placed on the world map for its groundbreaking craftsmanship and mid-century modern furniture. This floor lamp displays some of the essential ideals of the style: streamlined modernism accompanied by functional and timeless design.

This beautiful mid-century floor lamp combines a classical shape with carefully thought out proportions and the signature Danish craftsmanship. The “drop” shade cut by straight lines and sharp angles defines this model. This duality is also echoed by this lamp’s geometric shapes and taut lines. At the same time, there are multiple smaller details that show the individuality of this model, including the ribbed brass tube and the ball joint that adjusts the angle of the shade. The shade is unquestionably the most outstanding element of the design thanks to its shape. The classic empire style shade is formed from black lacquered metal, joining the classic with the modern. For contrast, the inside is lacquered white which reflects the light for a warm, ambient effect. This produced light can be directed freely thanks to the adjustable head that is strong enough to move and hold the shade on the vertical axis as well. The base and tube are made of brass, which was the preferred material for the most famous floor lamps of the era as it is enduring and - as this lamp shows - develops a beautiful patina over time. The brass body has an appealing, patinated golden colour that stands out even more when the lamp is lit.

In line with the Functionalist trend of the time, the designer abandoned ornamentation in favour of form. Nonetheless, the warm elegance and the “form follows function” catchphrase inherent in Danish design is maintained, as well as high-quality craftsmanship.
