Many museums, churches and headquarters of large companies house the work of Scandinavian Modern lighting designer Carl Fagerlund. Initially an instructor of illustration, Fagerlund shifted into the world of lighting design during the 1940s with the advantage of having an artist’s eye, and today his vintage table lamps, chandeliers, wall lights and other fixtures enrich dwellings and continue to captivate collectors all over the world.
These table lamps emerge as the epitome of elegance and innovation. They stand as a testament to Fagerlund’s mastery in the realm of glass artistry. The base is immediately eye-catching, commanding attention with its robust form and impeccable craftsmanship. The marriage of the striking white shade and green glass body imparts a sense of sophistication, where the interplay of colors accentuates its inherent allure.
While this shape of table lamp is not unusual, Carl Fagerlund effortlessly managed to make his model anything but common, highlighting his artistic vision and talent. Furthermore, the Swedish design philosophy of “beautiful things for everyday life” comes to life in this pair of lamps.
Fagerlund is best known for the work he did at Orrefors Glassworks, where this pair of lamps was manufactured. Orrefors was one of the leading companies in the Scandinavian Modern movement, and is revered by collectors for the fine craftsmanship and innovation of its superlative art glass.
