Since its establishment in 1934, Ateljé Lyktan has been at the forefront of Swedish lighting design, known for its commitment to combining function and material innovation while maintaining aesthetics. Founded by Hans Bergström and Verna Norell, icons of Swedish design, the company’s pieces embody Scandinavian modern ideals.
This floor lamp is a strong example of Ateljé Lyktan’s dedication to craftsmanship and understated sophistication. The lamp features a slender stem wrapped in a rich toned leather, introducing warmth and tactile interest that contrast beautifully with the polished brass elements. The circular brass base anchors the lamp with stability while maintaining a grounded presence. The careful detailing, such as the clean transition between the leather and metal components, reflects the company’s meticulous approach to design. The pairing of leather and brass highlights the Scandinavian appreciation for honest materials, celebrating their natural textures and patina over time. The overall silhouette is graceful and minimal, yet it conveys a sense of sculptural presence through its timeless shape.
This floor lamp offers an inviting balance between practicality and decorative elegance, serving as a striking accent next to a lounge chair, sofa, or desk. With its emphasis on clarity of form and a refined use of materials, it exemplifies the quality craftsmanship at the heart of Scandinavian design.

Swedish modernism of the mid-20th century embraced clarity and restraint, valuing craftsmanship and proportion. Designers sought harmony between form and function, creating objects that felt both modern and enduring. Founded in Stockholm in the early 20th century, Nordiska Kompaniet became a cornerstone of Swedish design culture, producing items that blended industrial innovation with meticulous craftsmanship. Through their work, lighting became more than a necessity. It was a way to shape atmosphere, emotion, and the rhythm of space itself.
This model “30006” floor lamp by Bertil Brisborg for Nordiska Kompaniet captures that vision with quiet elegance. Each lamp features a slender brass stem that rises from a circular weighted base which features a floral detail. The form is refined to a clear and uncomplicated expression. The stem combines brass and leather, creating a subtle dialogue between warmth and polish. This mix of materials softens the strict geometry of the silhouette and gives the lamp a deeper presence than its simplicity first suggests. The polished brass introduces a gentle glow, reflecting light even when the lamp is not in use. Above, the shallow cylindrical shade softens and diffuses the illumination, creating a calm and inviting ambience. Every detail, from the base to the leather body, contributes to a sense of intentionality. This lamp feels both familiar and elevated, the kind of design that improves the atmosphere of a space without calling attention to itself.
Bertil Brisborg, as the leading designer for Nordiska Kompaniet, managed to merge precision with a human touch, allowing his work to feel technically resolved yet emotionally resonant. The balance between the structure and the delicacy of the light reveals an era-defining sensitivity.
