Curved Cloud Sofa in Earth Toned Upholstery, United States 1980s (sold)
This stunning sofa embodies an era of bold, sculptural furniture with a focus on comfort and organic form. Postmodernism embraced humour, irony, and a playful approach to design, making this sofa not only functional but also a statement piece that serves to inject energy and individuality into any interior.
The sofa’s silhouette embodies the postmodern sensibilities of the 1980s, rejecting rigid geometry in favour of softened edges and playful proportions that blur the line between aesthetics and function. The decade was defined by contrasts; luxury and glamour coexisted with organic minimalism, both of which are reflected in this design. The sweeping asymmetrical curve of the body serves as the focal point, mimicking the gentle arc of a cloudbank hence the piece’s name. This cloud-like curvature is not just aesthetic; it subtly encourages a more interactive and intimate seating arrangement, making it ideal for open-plan living spaces, whether placed against a wall or in the middle of a room. Fully upholstered in a rich, earth-toned fabric, the piece exudes grounded warmth that contrasts beautifully with its airy form. The tactile texture of the upholstery further softens its voluminous shape, adding a sense of understated luxury. The colour also reflects a broader 1980s interior design trend, which often aimed to create cosy, atmospheric environments within the home.
With a sense for incredible craftsmanship and endless passion for innovation, this cloud sofa captures the essence of the 1980s design ethos, where function and form merge with whimsy. Its bold, sculptural form make this sofa an exceptional piece that stand as both art and furniture, perfect for modern interiors that value individuality and creative expression.

Born in 1890 in France, René Gabriel was one of the leading figures of the modernist movement in Paris. From 1923 to 1950, he presented a body of work, offering an innovative vision on the way people would live in the new century. He became widely recognised for developing practical, well-made furniture intended for the reconstruction period following the Second World War. Appointed president of the Société des Artistes Décorateurs (SAD) at the Liberation, he steered French decoration towards more economical productions, with sharp lines, efficient joinery, and a preference for the authenticity of local woods over imported species.
The daybed features a dark-stained wooden frame with clean, crisp lines that bring structure to its gentle form. Since the aesthetic is dominated by straight lines, the luxurious upholstery stays in focus, utilising the fabric’s softness to break the straight lines visually. Paired with the dark wood structure, the result is elegant and timeless, an aesthetic that can easily complement any style. In the absence of any other form of ornamentation, the materials stay in focus. The marriage of the wood and the fabric encapsulates the essence of modern French design. Every element appears carefully proportioned, with the silhouette remaining minimal yet bold and charming. Overall, this piece allows the craftsmanship and material quality to speak without unnecessary ornamentation.
Combining French craftsmanship, functional innovation, and a warm natural presence, it stands as a strong testament of French design from the 20th century that remains relevant and appreciated today.

The 1950s were a transformative era for design throughout Europe. Around this period, furniture began blending the streamlined elegance of modernism with the inviting charm of skilled craftsmanship. This decade celebrated functionality, comfort, and organic forms by creating pieces that were as practical as they were beautiful.
Furniture from the 1950s embraced soft curves and beautiful textures, perfectly showcased by this lounge chair that was crafted in the manner of Jean Royère. The ovoid shape creates an inviting and open look, which is enhanced by the soft upholstery that is undoubtedly its main visual feature. The combination of solid wood and high-quality upholstery is traditional in mid-century design for good reason; the two materials complement each other by highlighting their unique qualities. This chair has the power to transform a seat into a safe haven, a place to unwind and reflect. The designer clearly understood the comfortable allure of an ovoid shape. Moreover, this lounge chair is the perfect illustration of how the mixture of craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and luxurious upholstery create exceptional pieces.
A true representation of 20th-century European design, this lounge chair reflects the period's focus on practicality combined with artistic refinement. Art Deco, the glamorous and influential design movement that emerged in France during the early 20th century, left an indelible mark on the world of furniture design. Characterised by its bold geometric shapes, rich materials, and glamorous aesthetics, Art Deco transformed the way we perceive interior spaces. It was a testament to the fusion of form and function, and this ethos is beautifully exemplified in this pair of armchairs.
This pair demonstrates a confident silhouette in which every structural element contributes to the overall design. The chairs are built on substantial plinth bases that anchor the composition, while the upholstered seats and backrests provide comfort. Their defining feature is the sweeping curved wooden supports that rise from the base to form the armrests, creating a continuous structural line that contrasts with the strong angles of the back panel and base. This elegant curve introduces movement to the otherwise geometric design and highlights the craftsmanship required to shape the wood. The armrests are slender and smooth, preserving the visual lightness of the upper section despite the generous forms. Wooden veneers wrap the body, the warm grain complementing the muted olive upholstery with its soft texture. Viewed from the side, the combination of the curved supports, straight back panel, and block-like base creates a layered profile that is both sculptural and highly functional.
Comfort and craftsmanship are equally central to the design of this pair. They possess the quiet confidence characteristic of European Art Deco furniture, making them equally suited to vintage interiors and contemporary spaces that appreciate timeless design.

Norwegian furniture design of the 1940s occupies a unique position between the decorative language of Art Deco and the emerging ideals of modernism. During this period, artists struck a balance between structure and comfort, producing seating that combined clean, geometric outlines with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. Influenced by broader European movements, Norwegian designers favoured simplified forms, restrained ornamentation, and high-quality natural materials, resulting in pieces that felt both modern and grounded in tradition.
Each chair features a solid wood frame with strong, sculptural lines. Modest in form, the structure of the seat is especially inviting, with its open arm silhouette. The design is grounded in a human-centered approach, favouring curves that follow the body’s natural shape, and the use of materials that age gracefully over time. The low winged backrests create a slight cocooning feel while still providing excellent support, the subtle button tufting introduces a hint of texture without overpowering the design. The deep brown upholstery immediately draws the eye, bringing warmth and richness that pairs beautifully with the soft curves of the frame. Altogether, the interplay between rounded shapes and linear details provides a relaxed, harmonious energy that feels both timeless and welcoming, with a rare balance between functional simplicity and expressive form.
These Åge Nilsson armchairs capture the essence of Nordic design, making them equally suited for a cosy reading corner or a lively living room. Their distinctive yet versatile character allows them to complement a range of interiors, from mid-century inspired settings to more eclectic contemporary homes.

Art Deco seating from the first half of the 20th century moved toward softer, more streamlined forms, rather than relying on heavy ornament. Designers focused on curved silhouettes and volume, creating furniture that fulfilled functional roles. Low armchairs became especially popular in domestic interiors, where comfort and visual softness were balanced with the elegance of the with the period.
This armchair embodies that transition through its rounded, enveloping body and restrained detailing. The broad curved armrests flow directly into the lower structure, creating a unified silhouette with little interruption between elements. Unlike more rigid geometric seating, the form feels continuous yet strong, with the upholstery enveloping the frame to emphasize the smoothness of the contours. The sand-coloured fabric reinforces the shape, giving the chair a warm and understated presence while allowing light to move gently across the curved surfaces. The backrest is slightly reclined and contributes to the relaxed posture of the design, while the generously proportioned seat adds to the sense of comfort. Small wooden feet remain mostly concealed beneath the body, subtly lifting the chair from the floor without distracting from its compact volume.
What makes this piece particularly appealing is the combination of visual weight and softness. The chair feels grounded without looking rigid. It functions less as an architectural object shaped with attention to comfort that suits a rande of interior styles.

During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress. The movement peaked in popularity around the 1930s, spreading across Europe and the United States up to the start of World War II. Art Deco designs featured rare, expensive, innovative materials and exquisite craftsmanship.
In line with the Art Deco movement during which they were created, these chairs illustrate the bold, rich and luxurious aesthetic of the era. Before giving way to mid-century modernism and its focus on function over form, Art Deco pieces coupled geometry and craftsmanship to arrive at elegantly impressive additions to interiors. This pair of armchairs live up to their rich history through their strikingly geometric form. Both the backs and the armrests introduce clear angles and wooden elements with multiple edges. The chairs feature back and seat cushions, upholstered in a soft deep green fabric that draws in the eye, bringing a warmth and an earthy richness that pairs beautifully with the beech frames. The armrests are stripped down to their wooden structure, with a tapering element further highlighting the sculptural quality of the model. The short legs, with their carved ridges, balance out the voluptuous bodies, while flowing effortlessly as a continuation of the armrests to ensure the stability of the armchairs.
Created during an age of innovation - from materials, to shapes and techniques - these chairs showcase that the European furniture designers’ artistic approach was anchored in the Art Deco movement. Through their form and quality craftsmanship, this pair of armchairs makes for the perfect stylish touch of warmth and charm.

This elegant armchair pair by Dutch designer, Bas Van Pelt is a classically luxe model with a level of craftsmanship that’s immediately visible to any eye. The construction of this rare 1940s design is simple at its core, but thanks to the details, it is a unique representation of early Dutch modernism.
While Bas Van Pelt's creative work was primarily influenced by the 1920s straight lines dominated by The Hague School, this model is the result of his more mature design era, which was primarily dominated by natural materials and more curvature. While made of solid wood and wicker, these armchairs have an open feel thanks to the airy arrangement of the arms and legs. The curved lines of the armrests are beautifully crafted and follow the raised seat’s angle. The curves nicely contrast with the straight lines of the frame, keeping it from appearing too strict. Apart from the expert woodwork, the upholstered seats stand out as well. The fabric is tightly fitted within the frame, and the seat’s thick shape is an especially pleasing element that offers plenty of comfort both figuratively and literally. The woven wicker backs further enhance the visual interest and thus allow the chairs to stand out. The block legs blend seamlessly into the back and form a gentle angle. Thanks to the well-chosen proportions and materials, this armchair pair provides great comfort. This model can be easily used as an accent thanks to the characteristic details, but can also complement a wide variety of interior styles with its refined and elegant style.
Bas van Pelt’s progressive designs were, in many ways, ahead of his era. The Dordrecht-born designer’s furniture models are quite rare, thus a few are preserved in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam for modern art, contemporary art, and design.

Many associate the design duo, Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron, with some of the most recognisable and enduring French furniture of the second half of the 20th century. Working for their workshop Votre Maison, founded in the 1950s, the pair developed a design language that merged modernist ideals with a rustic sensibility and deep respect for craftsmanship. Known especially for their use of solid oak, expressive lines, and thoughtful detailing, Guillerme et Chambron created pieces that feel as relevant today as they did during the mid-century.
This set of four dining chairs displays the qualities that make Guillerme et Chambron’s work so iconic. Constructed in solid oak, the frames are characterised by gently tapered legs, finely proportioned stretchers, and a subtle refinement that never compromises their structural integrity. The backrests provide the defining visual feature: two angled frames supporting a carved horizontal element showcasing a delicate cut-out, which introduces a sculptural detail that immediately distinguishes the design. Though understated, this feature echoes the handcrafted quality found throughout Guillerme and Chambron's work. The contrast between the generous soft textile and the golden oak creates a harmony that feels thoughtful and balanced. Viewed together, the repeated silhouettes establish a strong rhythm around the dining table, their balanced proportions allowing the set to feel elegant without appearing rigid
This set has the power to shape the atmosphere of a room with quiet confidence, bringing warmth, craft, and intention into daily life. The set represent Votre Maison’s philosophy, and stands as an enduring example of French mid-century design at its best.

The company Votre Maison is one that has left an indelible mark on the history of French design. The 'José' armchair, designed by Robert Guillerme along with his sales partner Jacques Chambron, and manufactured in Emile Dariosecq’s workshop, was created at Votre Maison during the 1970s.
Made of high-quality oak with a beautiful sandy fabric, this ‘José’ armchair is truly eye catching. The carefully carved geometrical patterns on the backrest are symmetrically arranged, with a shape reminiscent of four leaf clovers, making the chair an interesting and aesthetically pleasing sight from the back as well. The light fabric works beautifully with the warm brown wooden structure of the chair. The edges of the frame and legs are softly rounded, giving a gentle feel. The arms are carved in an open and angular construction, bringing elegance to the piece.
Thanks to the appealing combination of materials, design and craftsmanship, the ‘José’ chair is immediately recognisable. Guillerme et Chambron’s pieces were manufactured in small series, therefore they are highly collectible.

About the designer:
Robert Guillerme graduated in 1934 from the École Boule where he excelled in architecture and furniture design. After the Second World War he moved to Lille, in the north of France, where he decorated homes and designed furniture for the well regarded Rogier workshops.
In 1948, Guillerme was joined by his long-time friend, decorator Jacques Chambron in Lille. The following year Guillerme and Chambron met master cabinet maker Émile Dariosecq, owner of a woodworking shop and the company Votre Maison was born. Together, they defined and imposed a new furniture concept. Thanks to their distinctive creativity, originality, and quality, the Votre Maison quickly became well-known.
The Votre Maison marked the history of French design. Guillerme drew the furniture designs while Chambron played the part of salesman, welcoming and advising clients. The power duo was complemented by Dariosecq, whose workshop took charge of the manufacturing. Together, they defined new furnishings concepts. Well-crafted chair back, polished wood and thick cushions make the reputation of their armchairs and sofas. Votre Maison continued to produce furniture right into the Twentieth Century, with Jacques’ son Hervé Chambron, a designer and graduate of the Ecole Boulle, having taken the reins in 1983.

“Danish Modern” is a recognised term around the world, standing for the characteristic style of Danish design created during the mid-20th century. Danish designers were often trained architects themselves, resulting in masterful structures as seen in this armchair. The design is focused on the aesthetics of modernism whilst employing the exquisite technique and material familiarity of the highly skilled craftsmen.
Works from this era embraced soft curves and beautiful textures, perfectly showcased by this piece. The rounded lines create an inviting and open look, which is enhanced by the light brown upholstery that is undoubtedly its main visual feature. The combination of solid wood and high-quality upholstery is traditional in mid-century design for good reason; the two materials complement each other by highlighting their unique qualities. It is also evident that the designer of this chair has followed the guiding mid-century modern principles of function, durability, timelessness, and comfort. The chair’s generous proportions and upholstery provide great sitting comfort, supported by the solid wood tapered legs.

This pair of upholstered armchairs beautifully exemplifies the balance of tradition and forward-thinking design that characterised the first half of the 20th century. Unlike designs from outside the continent, European pieces weren’t flashy but rather well-made to fit a warm, comfortable and welcoming interior.
The chair model is defined by a clear, well-proportioned silhouette and upholstered bodies. The design expertly combines a geometric impression and high quality materials to create a balance that defines the overall form. The wooden curved armrests frame the seats, creating a grounded and sturdy presence. These exposed wooden frames feature a continuous linear structure around the chairs, bending outward into broad armrests before descending directly into the sled-style bases. That uninterrupted curve gives the silhouette a strong architectural quality. The bodies are upholstered in a striped fabric, the pattern introduces rhythm and subtle contour without overpowering the shape. The vertical stripes emphasise the chairs’ height and give structure to its soft silhouette, while the fabric’s texture adds depth and tactility.
This armchair model is a strong example of how 1930s design prioritised comfort while embracing modern restraint. The understated elegance allows the pair to blend easily into both classic and contemporary interiors, whether used as a bedroom accent, or part of a larger seating arrangement. Timeless in form and honest in construction, the pair offers both visual clarity and lasting comfort, making it versatile with an enduring appeal.
