This model “15490” table lamp was made by Swedish designer and sculptor, Harald Notini. He was the artistic leader at Böhlmarks and is represented at the “Nationalmuseum” in Stockholm. Between the 1920s and 1950s, Böhlmarks was a significant player in the Swedish design movement. Harald Notini, after becoming creative director in 1916, drove the company forward producing what were considered pioneering and distinctive luminaires for the time.

Wherever they are placed, table lamps have been used as practical and decorative focal points since the early 20th century. As this piece showcases, designers managed to master the art of soft, cosy light without blinding or crushing space perception. Crafted with precision and attention to detail, this model is a testament to the aesthetic sensibilities and commitment to quality of both Notini and Böhlmarks. Glössner & Co. was a Swedish glass company founded by brothers Karl-Erik and Harry Glössner, active from the 1930s. Known for their decorative glasswork, they produced a range of items including etched and frosted glass, leaded glass windows, and artistic lighting fixtures. Their designs often featured stylised figures, nature motifs, and geometric patterns, all carachteristics found in this ceiling lamp.

Bo Notini was among the most accomplished lighting designers working in Sweden with Glössner & Co.. Notini came from a family of designers, his grandfather Harald and father Gunnar being key figures of Swedish lighting creation. Bo Notini often incorporated etched or sandblasted decoration into understated, elegant forms, in the case of this lamp, they take the form of birds, clouds and raindrops - all elements inspired by nature. These stylised elements are etched on an amber glass shade suspended from a slender brass rod and canopy, creating a light composition. The gently curved sides of the shade soften the simple profile, while the polished brass introduces a subtle metallic counterpoint to the textured glass. When lit, the amber glass diffuses a warm glow that highlights the etched decoration from within. Harald Notini was a Swedish sculptor and designer who served as the artistic director of Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik from 1916 onward. Under his leadership, Böhlmarks became an important Swedish lighting manufacturer, producing luminaires that helped define the transition from the refined Swedish Grace movement in the 1920s to the Swedish Modern decades that followed.

Model “6913” is a great example of Swedish Grace. The table lamp features a tapering, fluted shaft in nickel-plated brass. The vertical ribs catch the light to give the otherwise restrained form a remarkable sense of depth and dynamism. The body narrows towards the base before terminating in a circular foot, creating a stable foundation while maintaining the lamp's elegant silhouette. Olle Alberius was one of Sweden's foremost ceramic and glass designers during the 20th century.
